Just got a MP 40 Wilson tube Class 3. Which end of the carry sling goes on which end of the MP 40. Does anyone know the rate of fire for this gun. Any and all info on MP 40's would be appreciated.

Is the sling of the type where the head and right hand goes trough the loop near the "stock"?

Check the homepage for the links to Gerard Henrotin's ebooks. He is the guy who did the animation of the Luger on our front page. I am pretty sure he has done and ebook on the MP-40. They are very inexpensive and great graphics and information.

My sling is marked MP38 and MP 40 and looks a lot like a K98k sling without the tab on the end. It has the cross hatching. I am fairly sure it is a reproduciton althought sold as an original. I came with the MP 40. I fired the gun a few days ago while on a deer hunt (not at a deer) and it worked well.

Hi RGARRETT

My Dad, who is *barely* still around, used to tell tales of soldiers shooting axis deer (not a political viewpoint but a biological taxonomy) with grease guns and BARs in the Ardinne. He said that the hardest part was to convince GI's to shoot sparingly, lest much meat be lost. He was not very successful.

Richard, Stymie shows the forward sling keeper on the left side. It is forced to the right on MP40's I have seen by a bar in the sling ring. This makes no sense to me, as put on the supposed correct way, the sling crosses in front of the ejection port. One has to wonder.
This is one of the sexiest weapons the Germans had and is very well made. Like the Thompson, a little on the heavy side. Jerry Burney

Here is my C & R MP 40 w/its C & R sling. I found the sling after the above picture was posted. I finally got it on after several false starts. Has anyone been able to determine if THIS is correct???????

I do know of a few, but depends on how picky you want. There are two on gunbroker.com right now, one a reblue, the other I think the price is too high but nice looking.

The reblue is okay looking, and the other, I don't like how the toggle is stamped, but overall is nice.

Simson's you don't find too often, they are as rare as Krieghoff's, as the number is the same that were made. I have been looking hard on sites for examples the last 6 to 8 months, and bought two from friends, the other from a tip from a fellow collector.

I am looking for a "S" toggle simson, but you will run across about 4 times as many Simson & Co toggles as you will S toggles.

I think I prefer the full logo. How many different toggle markings are there????? I guess I should have a K date too..........I agree on your assessment of toggle stamping. Wont suit me at all. I will check FGS soon as I finish this comment......

I have to think that the picture by P. J. Heck is correct. The sling on the left side and the metal keeper on the forward end.

The sling is very much alike the one we use on A3 rifles here in Norway. Put the head and right arm trough the loop and adjust it with the metal keeper.
If you are skiing or "on alert" it's a great way to carry a rifle.. I think the picture by Stymie is right. (If the sling is long enough to carry it that way)

Have made an offer on the above gun. .........Also suspect the forward end of the sling is on the wrong side here as there is a remote possibility of it obstructing the ejection port, causing an empty to bounce back into the opening and causing the obvious jam..........not very probable but maybe possible.............
