Default byf 42 questions

Can anone tell me the approximate date of manufacture of my byf 42, serial number 79XX i? Also, when was the last byf 42 made? The serial number with the "i block" is stamped on the front of the frame, but elsewhere on the gun I see the same number without the "i". Is this correct?

Default Charlie, welcome to the forum.

Please take a moment to create a profile, and to read the Forum Decorum under general information to give you a grasp of the operation of the forum. All those with an interest in the Luger pistol are welcome here.

The sercial number stamping on your BYF 42 is correct. The letter suffix appears only on the frame.

One of the members who have a manufacturing production list will have to answer your question about the specific date of manufacture. The only thing I know for sure is that it was made in 1942

Come back often...

-John

Hi Charlie...

Welcome again to the Forum...! A byf 42 "i" block was indeed produced in 1942. Of the estimated 1942 total production of 113,000 (Still) byf 42s, yours probably was about the 88,400th Luger produced that year.

(My Thanks to Frank who constructed these tables!!!)

Thank you for the reply and information, John. So I now assume my byf 42 was made about a month or two before Mauser stopped making Lugers for the wehrmacht. Do you agree?
