Post 1911 Erfurt

Found a 1911 Erfut in local shop, all matching, magazine not, 50-60%, no stock lug, good grips, scattered pitting, origonal finish, bore too dirty to tell, inside shinny, wants $650. What about it? Seems high to me.

Hey RK, was it supposed to have had a stock lug and its been ground off or it never had one? Ron or Jan is the one to ask this question.

As a low end collectable, most won't look at it unless it is what, I think 70% or so. I think the price is a bit high unless someone else says it is a rarer piece?

1911 Erfurts were made without stock lug or hold open. Most 1911 Erfurts later had the hold open added (except those issued to Bavarian units). Is it unit marked? The 1911 Erfurts are hard to find for sale. I agree with you that the price seems high with the condition you describe.

No stock lug at all, not ground off. Does have a hold open. Condition is not that bad but not good, with a really good cleaning it would improve. No unit marking. Markings are clear, gun is tight.
This is a fence straddler. Rarity of a 1911 vs less than stellar condition.

Offer them $350 and your dog and if you still have that Thomson Contender that bruised your ears?

Eventually I would like an old style or w WW1 era with markings...

I'll go along with the consensus that the price is a bit lofty. Seems like an offer of $500 wouldn't be out of line and work up from there depending on how much you want it. If the side plate hump hasn't been worn down to a nub you probably can forgive the old veteran the rest of its cosmetic woes.

Ed, good idea but too late. The Contender went on down the line for the NEF .223 bull barrel & a observatory sized scope. The dog's pretty darn worthless except to ticks and fleas. But I did get a new truck (kept the old one for backwoods purposes). I've got my mismatched 1918 Erfurt police that isn't a bad looking gun, might see about a trade. I just called him, said $585 out the door. Decisions, decisions.

$585, I would start to think about it to. Don't trade the police, they would only give you $350 for it and i"d give you that....

Decicions, decisions....

I'm going to pass on it. Anybody interested its at JCs Gun and Tackle, 256-539-9688. Be sure and get an inspection option. Thanks all, this probably saved me $ by having folks who really know Lugers being available for assistance. I appreciate it.
Now if I can only put it out of my head and sleep tonight and stay out of the store for 48 hrs I might be OK.

I know JC's! Used to go to Redstone quite a bit when I was doing military systems stuff and always hit all the gun stores. Got a mint in the box Colt Match Target Woodsman with elephant ear stocks there for an embarrassingly low sum and later tripled my investment on a trade for a Luger. Fond memories.
