Herb, this item has been up for some months, and perhaps discussed elsewhere on this board. It has certainly been discussed upon one of the boards the I frequent... about a dozen, and, well, I don't recall exactly, but... It's about a 50/50 split on whether this item is legit or not. I have had one in my hands, and I tend to think it is a true item, based upon the pictures (I reserve the right to question it were it actually in my hands). However. As this thing has been floating on Ebay and GunBroker and GunsAmerica for about 90 to 120 days, I must guess the price is too high. Glen

Different seller this month. Well, maybe same seller with different moniker on another auction site.
Here is a link to the previous sale:

The reason I posted this is that the seller makes mention of the green verdigris that has accumulated in the last 100 years. My sister in law use to do little craft work thingies using copper sheets. I have bought a compound for her in KA when I lived there and when we visited her in Utah would give it to her. This stuff would make virtually new copper turn to a great vertigris green in a very short time, like overnight as I recall. Since the invention of computers and other things I have experienced in the last 60+ years I am of the opinion that one should believe nothing that you hear and less than half of what you see. I'm not implying that this seller is not legit, just that I am a skeptic when I am not armed with extensive knowledge of the subject at hand, (read don't know $hit about nothing) However, I do admit to knowing good Kentucky whiskey when I find it.

Herb, Trigger43, It's my opinion that the holster is real alright. The verdigris is not a very good indicator as you say, not because someone can activate it on demand but because it occurs so rapidly. In just a year or two verdigris can form on brass in proximity to leather.

The real indicator is the patina on the leather and the stitching. If you take a close look at the toe you will see this is old time craftsmanship and there is genuine wear on the edges. On the rounded piece in the above photo's you can see the stitching up close and it is linen thread. You will notice it is corded. Linen thread, while not all that difficult to find is not on the shelves at Walmart. It takes huge needles on a power sewing machine. This holster was not made in the recent past. Why it was configured and then reversed? Who knows, the sellers ideas are as good as any. This still doesn't make it look any better.

There is some speculation by a Forum Member I trust implicitly that the markings might not be what they should be, but even he says it would require some research.

In any event, it is horribly disfigured and why anyone would want it is a mystery to me.

If anyone out there thinks it has great value please log on and give your opinion as to why. Just curious.

I have been asked by more than one person if there is any possible way to restore this holster and I do not believe there is any hope for it as it has too much damage to cover. Jerry Burney

Guys,

This is the holster I had in mind when I asked the questions in my previous thread about "US Test Holster Orientation"...

If most or all of the 1,000 Test holsters were made for a right hand carry, in the calvary style (butt forward)...then is a left-handed version documented somewhere ?

I noticed "Revshop" was the winner of the holster on e-Bay last time it was for sale...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...7&category=135

Oos...! Missed it during my first reads...this particular holster is speculated to have been "inverted' at some point it time...that is why some of the suede-finish is on the outside and vice versa...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

I have looked at this holster time and again, trying to convince myself that it is an elaborate fraud. But, I have to agree with Jerry that it is an authentic US Test holster that has been seriously mutilated and probably beyond any recovery efforts for restoration. That is unfortunate, and has reduced its value to a fraction of what its historical importance should merit. It is a real shame, because it is in excellent condition otherwise.

Pardon me for apparently missing something. This holster apparently went to "Revshop" on October 4th for just a hair under $1500! The seller's reserve WAS met! Why is this item up for sale again? I was following the bidding and couldn't believe it went for $1499 with all its problems and questions. Did "Revshop" not carry through with the purchase?

Pete, Calvary is where Jesus died. Cavalry are horse mounted troops....Probably just a typo....

Herb, Looks like revshop backed out of the deal for some reason. Anyone that would buy this for $1500.00 is a candidate for the looney bin. Jerry Burney

Thanks, Jerry, for the info re Revshop. Also, I lost the Krieghoff holster you bid for earlier on e-bay. Things like that are tough to win.
