Default 42 Chamber Date Banner Commercial

Has anybody ever seen a 42 dated Mauser Banner commercial with strawed parts and black, bakelite grips? One is being shown on another forum and the various features just don't seem to add up.

Yes, those 42 Commercial Banners were interesting. That gun looks correct to me as I have a similar one.
Strawed parts, black grips, un-numbered extractor and w suffix. Link-

Here is one that RIA sold at a ridiculous price.

We've "seen" each other on the FB group...

I didn't get around to cracking a book about it, or asking here. My impression up until now was that some contract guns and Commercials that Mauser made reverted to the pre-1937 finishing methods and styles.

The Facebook-linked gun in this thread, the newest-made in the series, has a pre- Haenel-Schmeiser mag, from the earlier '30s, which is anomalous compared to the other two linked. My Spidey Sense tells me it's incorrect by a few years...is that right?

I have a 1938 chamber dated Mauser banner commercial Luger in .30 Luger with rust blue finish and strawed parts. It has a Crown/Crown/U Oberndorf proof house acceptance mark.

I think that these characteristics must have continued on commercial pistols as more premium finishes.

Here is a funny 41 banner I found a few years ago.

All salt blue, plastic grips and a commercial Mauser banner.
Bottom photo with a box of steel cased ammo, but with an uncoded DWM label. Sometimes you find things that appear correct, but don't suit the norm.

The analysis that Joop and Don did in "The Mauser Parabellum" would seem to indicate that these commercial Luger components came off the same line as those producing the Military contract Lugers, without a lot of consistency in the chamber dates and their actual production.

I have two Mauser commercial banner Lugers. One with a "42" chamber date that has a low serial in the "G" block, and the one I pictured above from the "W" block normally associated with commercial Lugers. I think that the "G" block banner may have been made after the war for direct sale to occupying US troops, but the ones in the "U", "V", and "W" blocks may not consistently run with sequential chamber dates.

I believe that both versions are correct, some with straw and some with all blued small parts. Hard to prove now if the strawed ones were restrawed later on. Here is my all blue 42 Banner serial8300y. The all blue ones often have some blued internal parts as well that appear to be original and correct that way.

Long time lurker - I have a PO8 42 dated Mauser Banner with number 7924W with strawed parts. Which is two before 7926W that was shown in the RIA auction mentioned in post #2. I have a picture but do not know how to copy and send.

Welcome,
I believe there is a sticky on how to post pictures.

Since you have made a post, you can go back to it,
click edit,
click go advanced,
page down to manage images,
click,
find the picture you want to post on your computer,
double click and it will be there,
click to up load,
then submit!
