Swiss 1906 Rebuild

Here's a new one that came my way as a gift for helping to liquidate an estate. Looks to be a rebuild (it's in 9mm), but probably not refinished. Bore is very nice. It came with 2 German WWII-era magazines. On the bottom of the barrel, below the "7079" and "m"-looking marking is "8.82". Stocks are in very good condition. Other than finding an appropriate Swiss magazine and maybe replacing the buggered-up grip screws, I'll leave it alone. Any thoughts on the 9mm conversion, build date, markings and anything else is mucho appreciated. Shooter-grade maybe, but a nice shooter.

Welcome,

You have a nice shooter, it looks like a 1916 DWM upper on the Swiss lower.
The Swiss is a long frame, which is why it extends past the receiver of the "short" upper assembly.

I do belive the side plate is from a P 08, and not the Swiss type.

Thanks, Don. Sideplate is marked with an upside-down "43", which is the last two of the serial number. Should be Swiss. Having fun figuring out the story on this.

The legally correct serial number for your pistol is the one on the frame, 16643.

If you encounter cycling problems when shooting this, it may relate to the recoil spring, which was originally installed for use with a 7.65mm / .30 Luger upper with a longer barrel.

Both the frame and the toggle train in your pistol are from the Swiss gun. I can't remember if the longer frame affects the position of the receiver on the frame, or if this ends up changing the timing when the gun is fired and cycled.

Have you shot it yet?

Hi Marc
Going to try it out tomorrow with USGI 9mm M882 ball. Magazines are a blued-body fxo, marked "S/42" and a bright aluminum body, small "k", marked with an eagle over a "63". Should be fun.

Bob, is M882 Nato loaded ammo? If so, IMHO it is too strong for a luger.

Something more mid-ranged like Winchester white box is what I like to use...

Roger that. I'll try some Atlanta Arms 115 grain ball then. It's pretty mild. Thanks for the heads-up; I always thought Lugers were tolerant of warm ammo.

Lots and lots of folks will tell you that - I have found that mine like it mid-range and are picky - i.e. they need proper OAL (length) and a good round FMJ

The pictures appear to show the receiver slightly recessed. I think this indicates that the frame is an older long frame.

Good eye Joseph. Don Voigt had already made that identification (post #2). The toggle train, frame and grips are from a Swiss Waffenfabrik Bern manufactured gun, probably around 1919, while the receiver is 1916 DWM
