Post Off Topic - Clive Cussler

I followed up on Pete Ebbink's suggestion to invite the new NAPCA member and famous author, Clive Cussler, to join the Luger Forum. I went through his PR contact at NUMA, and Mr. Cussler very graciously replied (again, through the PR contact) to my e-mail. He said that he "started collecting firearms a few years ago" but did not mention what he collects. I gave him the link to the forum, but I will be surprised if he joins since that would require him to divulge his e-mail address, and I think that would be very private indeed. He also gave me some insight into his current schedule and I don't know how he has time to sleep let alone participate in the forum! Good news for Cussler fans; he stated, "Currently I am hard at work on the screenplay for the movie version of SAHARA which should be released the summer of 2003"! Looking forward to that Don't know if we could set him up with an "honorary" membership that would give him a password but not require his e-mail address. I guess that I am being presumptuous in thinking that the rest of the forum would like to have him on board. Waddaya think?

Once again, being from Alabama gives you an excuse to be ignorant about a lot of stuff and I spend a whole lot of time out in the woods with my ugly dog anyway, so would you please tell me more about this esteemed gentleman? Due to your unabashed (and respected by me)opinion I feel like there's something here I should know about.

Hello Grady,

If you pick up one of his books, you will ignore the world and read non-stop until the last page...I assume you'all do read in Alabama...(just kidding, of course...!)

His books are lots of fun and I read them on my business airplane trips...

Here is the New Forum post I started a few days ago :

" Not related to lugers, at all...
Just noticed a new member joined the NAPCA as announced in this month's Auto-Mag...Mr. Clive Cussler.

Mr. Cussler is a prolific adventure-novel author, who's main character, Dirk Pitt, makes wonderful, fun reading...

Wonder if Mr. Cussler owns any lugers ? One of his book did cover some Nazi-era, stuff. He lives in Phoenix; do any Forum members know how to e-mail him and invite him over to our Forum ? "

Hello Ron,

Thanks so much for your efforts to get Mr.. Cussler amongst us...maybe John D. can figure out a way so his e-mail is not seen by anyone on the Forum.

I think Mr. Cussler has a few million dollars in a very nice antique car collection. Wonder if his gun collecting includes any lugers...?

15+ years ago he was involved with a Hollywood movie version of his "Raise The Titanic". What a debacle...so bad, I read or saw an interview with him that stated he was out of the movie business for good...sounded like he lost artistic control or never had it.

With movie returns and %'s now days, even another really bad moive would buy lots of new, old cars and a bunch of lugers...

Hi Gents,

It's excellent to have any nice interesting people amongts us, the more the merrier.

I don't recall reading anything from Mr. Cussler (my fault) but i know he's very popular and he would enhance any board by his mere presence. I'd also would appreciate any author willing to go to the enlightened ones in search of info or advise to better portrait the features or particulars of my favourite firearms. I'm currently reading a Marcinko novel located partly in Buenos Aires and am amazed by the accuracy of certain details (besides the lack of it and literary allowances he takes for the sake of keeping the novel interesting). Detail definitely pleases us when it does reach familiar grounds. My favourite authors are rich in details when it comes to weaponry and its operation (Clancy, Bond, Coonts, etc), every once and again they screw up and one wonders where do they get their info. Movies do that all the time, royally pi**e* me off (hate cocking or double action Glocks- Matrix, The Net, etc).

I'd suggest that Mr. Cussler would be more than welcomed here and he could perfectly use an alias for his email address. I do have an email that is related to "Norman Bates" for this kind of use, for example.

Nice to have world famous "buddies", but i believe most of us are here for other reasons and Mr. Cussler would not be too much annoyed by the forum members. It is sad to learn that being deprived of the pleasure of participating could be part of the price of being so well known.

I know that Tom Clancy is a gun collector. I would be nice to have him aboard also. Tom H.

On the issue of email addresses being public... that is no longer the case. He can maintain his privacy because even the receipt of private messages is an option for users.

Email addresses obtained during the registration process are available ONLY to Site Administrative staff, and are no longer made public.

I understand that actor Bruce Willis is a staunch 2nd Amendment advocate and a gun collector as well.

I wonder if we could get Charlton Heston to join our little group?

How would I get in contact with him? Do you have an idea John? Just think how membership would grow if we had Mr. Heston aboard!

Brandon, when you see all the hollywood liberals wanting to take our guns, it is refreshing to see a nice strong Christian man like Mr Heston stand up so staunchly for our second amendment rights. The quotes from our founding fathers really ring home for me. After all we must really protect ourselves and families from bad guys, small AND LARGE.

Kinda on & off the subject; one of THE BEST action books about guns that I HAVE EVER read is POINT OF IMPACT by Stephen Hunter! Bob The Nailer is up there with John Wayne as far as I'm concerned. There are several sequels to this book, but none better than it.

Check it out here:Stephen Hunter Books

Ron, I am currently finishing up on of Mr. Cussler's books that I came across recently. I think it would be great if he joined our group. You know if he does not want to use his real name maybe he can use the name "Dirk Pitt" if he signs up. Do you think anyone would make the connection?

Brandon,

I know i´m just about the latest arrival here and I haven´t even handled a Luger in my life so I´m not the most qualified to tell who´s good to have and who´s not, but although I know both Mr. Heston and Mr. Nugent for their reputation as gun aficionados (BTW, at Sigarms there´s a tool they use to laser engrave their pistol slides. Some guys there did toyed with the machine and some rejected slides, one of them had Ted Nugent´s logo on it), i think that if you start saying this guy we ought to have and this other one too you might be sending the wrong message.

For all i care, i rather have any of you guys with all your collective wisdom than Pamela -Barb Wire- Anderson or Angelina -Tomb Raider- Jolie.

Hi Everyone,
It has been a while since I last posted and hope everyone is doing well. I remembered this thread a while back and thought I would share with everyone that Clive Cussler passed away on 24 February 2020. I do not recall if he ever joined the group but I think he would have enjoyed it if he had.
