1913 DWM Military with stock lug.

Hello,

I'd like to pick your collective brains about a:
1913 Military DWM with stock lug.

I know the 1913 commercial with stock lug is considered "rare".

I am wondering if the 1913 Military with stock lug merits the same reverence.

What I know is there were more 1913 P08 pistols made without the stock lug than with it.
The order to produce them with the stock lug was issued in May 1913.

Although a 1913 Military with stock lug is uncommon and could be considered "scarce", it is not near as rare as the 1913 Commercial which, in addition to the stock lug, has a grip safety...very uncommon in a Luger after 1908.

In many scenarios, split hair difference among sub-variations is not that important. Could be more important for smaller group of collectors when the goal is "collecting every variation in certain era", then with/without that stock lug counts. Otherwise, 1913 is 1913, Erfurt is Erfurt, its current condition is current condition, those are way more important factors. With or without stock lug, big deal? Just a generic opinion.

Of course, if it's a gun without lug when it's made, but a lug added by someone, or vice versa, stock lug removed by someone, that will be totally different story. But that's a gun condition factor.

I would be interested in seeing photos of it, either way. It sounds like an interesting variation.

In summary, here are the relative populations of the three kinds of 1913 Erfurts:

Current population range of distinct variations (assuming 23,000 guns total):

> No stock lug, none or added hold open - 8,835 to 10,372 guns
> No stock lug, hold open from factory - 4,545 to 6,773 guns
> Stock lug and hold open from factory - 7,392 to 8,082 guns

By a fairly narrow margin, those with no stock lug and a factory hold open are the least common.

If you have other examples of 1913 Erfurts, I would love to add them to the list, especially those which help narrow down the serial number ranges of the transition points from one variation to the other.

Actually, for DWM 1913 commercial guns, those without stock lugs are considered rarer than those with lugs.

I like the idea of a stock lug and a grip safety. Stock lug, grip safety, and dished toggles would be really cool. (Yes, I know which variation that would be). <sigh>
