Appears to me to be a repro.
They are on the market over here, too; all with the "Otto Sindel" mark.

Jup.. a repro police type holster.
made in 1941, I think hoster should be marked cvb or WaA91 or -4?

Jerry, got this feeling I'm up against a corner now

well.. for me I thought it should be marked cvb and the stiching was a bit too 'minty' after 67 years. . Coming from you, I must be wrong fer sure! Looking forward to your explenation

Steinar, I believe that the lack of military code is due to the fact that it is not a military holster but police. Looks good to me.

The stitching appears too "white" for me.
Don't know how to express this in proper English, but the strap just
doesn't look right to me.
My (unmarked) police holster, passed to me by the widow of deceased friend who has carried it from 1942 through the end of WW II, has the same "lacquer" style shell, but no markings at all.
Somehow I don't like the faint eagle as well.

Looks good to me, possibly restitched in parts? Personally, a clearer picture of the NPE/B stamp would be good, but after looking at the photos, it seems everything is there, just in unbelievably, new looking condition....the back anyway/especially. makers stamp and date looks exactly real, belt loops are stitched right, has the later aluminium stud. if it's repo, its scary good, would have to be the best out there. so my thoughts - real.

Gentlemen all...George is intirely correct. It is as original as you will see out there. The Police and the Luftwaffe were not under the same tight restrictions the Army were.
The maker, date and Police acceptance mark are correct.
The stitching is perfect throughout. The magazine pouch has the tight flat profile that repro's do not have.
The top.. seen from the back is tight to the sides. Most repro's are flared.
On the back on the left edge about an inch and a half from the bottom of the mag pouch is a start stop. You can see it where the stitching is backstitched or bunched up. The German Saddler stopped here and went to another portion of the holster. Later to come back and continue stitching the holster body closed. This is seen on most original Luger holsters.

Take a look at the closure stud in the top. It is a greyish color, nice patina. This late they were made of a zink material rather than the earlier steel.

The lifting strap knot is nicely tied...

The stitching is fairly heavy but normal for this late..Seems they used a thick thread late in the war.

A very nice example of the German Saddlers art here....

In short.... is has none of the repro charecteristics other than it is in pretty good shape.

I would bet the inside is pretty!

Well done Jerry, thanks for clearing things up. Any chance that it could be unissued? I notice wear on the closer strap, but there doesnt appear to be ANY marks on the back from rubbing on something, as you commonly see. Is there unissued luger gear about? Common to see, or rare to see? Man, that is one minty holster by the way!

Went..Recently on my trip to DC I was fortunate enough to be invited to a collectors home where I looked at something over 200 luger holsters. Many of these Gentlemens holsters made the one we are discussing look well used.
Yes. There are many out there in exceptional shape. I have a light yellow tan DLU 1940 that is virtually mint. It came to me as a walk in at a Phoenix AZ gun show.
Like pistols... one must actually look at the holster with a critical but knowledgable eye. If you go to Ebay and look over the selection of repro Luger holsters offered there for 50 bucks or so you will immeditiately see the HUGE differences in quality.
The Germans at this point had been crafting leather for hundreds of years. Leather items were a central point of their society. During WW2 there were still hundreds of thousands of horses. So much equiptment was leather it is a wonder they could keep up with it!
I am a rank amature to their poorest Saddler. Perhaps in another 20 years or so I can get out of the apprentice stage...

i had to hold my tongue on rather hand for a bit. i know looking at pictures is one thing and holding it in your hand is another, but there was no doubt in my mind that it was not a repo.

Brain? On an average day I would guess this holster would bring $400+ on Ebay. It's in pretty nice shape, not nearly mint but no real obvious problems. I have seen them bring more. Some less..Police items seem to be less respected than Army or Luftwaffe.
By the way, why would anyone hate you? Seems like human nature to want to know what something might be worth...
