Default Thumprint

I am new to kreighoff's and am curious about the nature of the hardened metal "thumbprint". I've seen a few pictures and am still confused. Just how far does the hardened area typically extend into the back of the frame? Is it only supposed to be in the region where the toggle strikes the back of the frame or does it extend further down the back of the frame? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I simply thought I'd take advantage of the knowledgeable folks here. -Rob

Rob,

The former...area of frame back where toggle makes contact. Not down the entire grip strap...

BTW...talented folks have mastered how to re-create this "thumb print"...so be careful...
