Default Persian Lugers

Why is it that you on occasions see Persian arty lugers for sale but I have never seen a normal luger pistol for sale? With a ratio of 5 to 1 its seems like regular pistols would be more common. What would considered to be a fair sales price for a good collectable Persian arty luger? Thanks, Bill Hughes

Bill,
I belive that Persian artillery Lugers are 10 - 1 ratio compared to the regular 4" persian lugers.

MFC, I recall reading that there were 5000 P-08 and 1000 LP-08 guns in the Persian contract. However, my memory is not as good as it once was (I am 77) and the data may have been faulty. Therefore your figures may be correct. Bill

I sold both an LP08 full rig and a P08 two years ago. Both were sold to the same person. The P08 brought $4000 more than the LP08 full rig.

Bill,

In Joop and Don's new book they describe the final Persian Contract signed in 1936 as follows:

3000 P.08s serial numbered from 1-3000.
1000 LP.08s serial numbered 3001-4000

Now, there are also 50 cutaways numbered 1-50. I am not sure they are included in the 3000 production of P.08s or are a separate series.

My pieces seem to fall into this range.

Cutaway is SN 37
P.08 is SN 2836
LP.08 is SN 3871

Haven't sold any Persians and the acquisition of my three guns was done long enough ago as to not necessarily be relevant to today's market.

However, I can offer some data for what its worth.

All three pieces are high finish guns, all matching. The P.08 and the LP.08 are full rigs with holster, matching magazines and proper tool. The LP.08 has three matching magazines, two of which are in the strap mounted magazine pouch and the P.08 has the normal 2. The cutaway is a standalone gun with a matching magazine. No other accoutrements as you would expect in a piece that was solely used for instructional purposes.

If we take the P.08 rig price as 1.00, the cutaway was 0.70, and the LP.08 Rig was 0.60.

Thus strange as it may seem, a complete LP.08 rig cost me 60 percent of what I willingly paid for a complete P.08 rig. Now there were a few years between the purchases (the LP.08 rig was the later).

Have no idea whether or not this data is significant but it is what it is. But it seems to corroborate George's data that Persian P.08s sell for more than LP.08s even though three times more of them were made.

Hope this helps.

John

Curious as to why a pistol with three times the examples delivered as the Artillery is so much more valuable? Atrition?

Default Persian Lugers

Gentlemen. thank you very much for all of the answers. Alanint, I have the same question as you. I guess when I look for one it will be an artillery. I am trying to get one of each luger where they are marked for each country I traveled in in 20 years in the Air Force. A different type of collection. Thanks, Bill Hughes

Regardless of reported numbers manufactured, Persian contract P08s are far more scarce in the US marketplace than the LP08's. I have owned several LP08's over the years and seen many, many more. I have not run across more than five P08's in the same time.

There is a persian luger artillery listed on GunsAmerica listing number 914899114 for $4995. If my farsi is correct the sn is 3531, which falls within the numbers listed above. Everything else being ok this may be a ligit gun. Is the asking price in the correct ball park? Thanks, Bill

Save yourself a lot of mess and buy this one from Simpson. It's real, the stock is real and matched and the holster is correct and real. It's also cheaper than what I sold the last two I had for.http://www.simpsonltd.com/product_in...1b9aa5df0d6bff
