Which is Better 9mm or ,30 Luger?

You can probably buy a handgun, shotgun and an AR for close to price of a Luger...

A revolver can be operated entirely with one hand, and won't hang up if fired from the inside of a pocket.

How to you recommend extracting a live round ?

I used a wooden rod and small hammer, which took a few taps.

I personally have an SR1911 for HD and, once I graduate and can actually use it on a regular basis, for my eventual CCW

That's always sporty, and certainly no time to be distracted. I liken it to snipping the red wire on an IED. (Or was it the blue wire?) In a perfect world I'd try partial disassembly to make most (non-Luger) guns safer, but of course still not "safe". Once the slide is off you may be able to lever the cartridge back with a screwdriver, but driving it backwards may still be the final solution. If there are other and better ways, I'm all ears.

There's always the possibility of catching some fabric between hammer and frame.

But I agree, and I have both a Colt Detective Special and a S&W Model 15, both w/2" bbls, for 'home defense'. Just not in my pocket.

I have seen S&W 2" bbl revolvers with 'shrouded' hammers, and would like to get one. I believe one of our members here (Ron or Jerry, I forget which) has an 'add-on' shroud on his revolver. That would be worth having.

In regard to the revolver, it was in reference to the OP regarding home protection.
For carry, there are other issues to consider and choices.

Colt offered the hammer "shroud" for its Police positive size wheel guns, like the Cobra and Agent; I have on on my Agent.

Smith & Wesson offered the shrouded hammer in the model 49 and the like, some call it the "humpback". They also made the completely enclosed "Centennial" type, that would be ideal for a pocket if you want to carry there.

Given the ample choice of modern pistols and ammo, in case of home invasion a collectible Luger would probably be one of the last pistols I would think about.

If you want to give them a going away party with style, by all means use the Luger....But, if you are just protecting your family, light them up with a 12 gauge and be done with it.....have a nice day...
