1906 AE / Commercial Lugers

I see many 1906 American Eagles with both numbered and unnumbered grips. Were all Model 1906 Lugers originally made with numbers matching grips?

Some at least have no matching numbers. I have two 1906's AE's in the 30 and 40k serial range that are clearly original and correct and both have no matching numbers in the grips. They both do have various other marks and numbers inside.

I was hoping this thread would get replies. I have a 1900 AE with two numbered/matching grips.
On my two 1906 AEs, one has unnumbered grips and the other has one unnumbered grip and the other is numbered, but the numbered grip does not match the pistol. In looking at Simpson's AEs, they seem to bee mostly matching number grips.

The OP might get more responses if he would change the post title to ask a question, such as "1906 Commercial/AE grips - numbered?"

1906 AE 9mm (54855) - not numbered, but not certain if grips are original. Maybe they are given the other responses.

1906 Swiss Cross in Shield - not numbered

1906 Bulgarian contract - numbered (matching)

I hand a 1900 AE (# 14124) that I remember had its own matching grips.

Yes I was hoping for more replies, but now there are some - so thanks to all.

Most of the 1906 AE I have perused on the internet do seem have matching numbered grips, but it sounds like it's not a big deal if they are not numbered (and appear original or at least period/old).

Reason I asked about this is I will be trying to buy my first AE, maybe at Morphys this month.
So don't bid against me!(LOL)!

I have seen sellers go out of their way to find (or create) numbered grips even if they properly should not be numbered.

In a 1900 AE, if all else is ok, AND the rest is good; I'd let un-numbered grips slide- but consider them a "mis match" for pricing.

I agree - the M1900 AE grips should be numbered.
