Default Bolt Hold Open.

I have an early Commercial DWM with a non functioning bolt hold open. I saw that Sarco has latch's for $60.00. Should I get a replacement or try to re work the original?
I had posted pic's in a earlier thread on this same topic. Have not gotten around to taking it apart to have a look.
Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving.

One on my hold opens had old oil hardened on the metal surrounding the device that needed serious cleaning to function properly. It didnt look that bad and the hold open had to be removed. This may not be applicable in your sitituation but worth a mention... Gobble gobble

Seems to me that attempting to get yours working is the best first step. Can you raise it manually with your fingers or a small screwdriver? Remove it, inspect it, clean it, and don't forget that it is the magazine that actually makes it all go, so even the magazine needs to be examined.
I haven't seen the Sarco parts but they are generally a bit rough and requiring fitting anyway. You will not save any time, or money, by immediately going to the Sarco part.

I agree, remove and clean the bolt hold open first . I have had this happen before on a couple of mine and a good cleaning fixed them right up . good luck

Pauly, I do have the NOS unnumbered Swiss M29 hold opens with spring installed @$60 (these may require minor fitting for your PO8) or a few numbered German made ones @$75, if you are attempting to match it up to the rest of your luger. Tom

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I need to take mine apart and check it out first. Tom I'll keep your offer in mind.
I am new to Lugers, and I want to do the right thing. As a former toolmaker I really appreciate the work that went into these pistols.

Mine is all matching mid 4000 range with an original magazine, I also picked up a MecGar<SP? mag. I'd like to shoot it one time and then put it away.

What is the actual problem? Could it be a broken / missing hold open spring? Dirt? A fit problem with the magazine button (there were some very early dimensional changes with the M1900 magazine well - don't have my books here to see when the transition took place)...

If you are only going to shoot it "one time", why bother?

The hold open does not have to work to fire, neither do you need a new magazine.

If cleaning and lubrication does not "fix it", I'd fire it once or 8 times or what ever, clean it and put it away.

I took the right hand grip off and had a look. It appears that the hold open lever is cracked? When I pushed up on the lever the bolt stayed open.

Here is a pic of the bolt hold open link. It appears to be cracked.

Well I finally took the pistol apart and I am able to confirm that the bolt hold open is indeed cracked. Right at the hole/slot for the spring. Have already sent Lugerdoc an email.
Thanks everyone.
