Default What is this?

I live on the island of Saipan...Mariana Island. I recently found brass from what appears to be a 9mm Luger round. On the base is stamped"METALLVERKEN 9.00". The length of the brass is 18.5mm, the rim and base are 9.5mm. Any ideas as to the age of the brass or what kind of firearm? The Germans did administor the island from around 1900 to 1914.
