Default safety engaging while firing

Two of my three Lugers have developed this problem. I am beginning to suspect it is ammunition based. Sometimes (not always) after firing two or three rounds the safety lever will drop out of its OFF SAFE notch and the weapon will not fire. The ball detent seems to me to be an appropriate strength. I am wondering if the ammo I am using is maybe a bit harsh and this is a function of that rather than a flaw in the weapons. One of them is a Erfurt 1914. The other is a stainless steel Stoeger 6". Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Stout ammo does not help.
This is a frequent problem with the Stoeger.
The "nub" on the safety lever is probably worn, and the arm itself lost some tension.

I have replaced completely worn "nubs", and also carefully bent the arm to increase tension.
If it is a "shooter" you may choose to buy another safety lever with a better nub and more tension.

But that would be hit or miss when ordering.

Or you could send it to lugerdoc.

I had that happen on one of my Lugers as well. It turned out to be a buildup of crud under the safety arm. I drifted the pin out, removed the safety arm and scrubbed the built-up crud off with a brass brush. It has worked perfectly since then.

I had it happen once after I installed a new pair of aftermarket grips on the Luger. One shot and it would not fire the next shot. I located the problem, and "tuned" the left grip, and have had no problems since.
