That's really cool. My grandfather brought back one of those flags back from Okinawa. I had a good friend have his wife look at the flag to translate the messages. She told me the man's name was Hideo Oshiro. She told me she thought this Japanese soldier was a very young man, based on the messages. She said some of the send off messages were things like "you're becoming a man". She told me he was likely a Okinawan, based on his surname.
