Dealers for 1940 9mm Luger

I am looking to purchase a 1940 9mm luger as a gift for my husband. His grandfather brought back one from WWII, but chose to turn it in. I would like one that came back with a soldier (no import marks) with matching magazines. An original holster would be a bonus, but not necessary. (His grandfather's came back with a holster with SS markings, however I do understand the chances of finding that particular specification are low). My biggest concern is finding reputable dealers (since I am not a professional, or even a hobbyist, I would have little idea if what I was buying was legitimate) and I figure if anyone knows where I should shop, it's you guys. Any ideas? Price is not an issue, although I don't desire to overpay.

Several reputable dealers come to mind, and I'm certainly leaving out lots of smaller guys who have stellar reputations.
Try Simpson, Ltd. in Galesburg, IL, and also Legacy Collectables. They both have websites which can be quite informative just to browse.
I'm not aware of specific markings on SS holsters, so that may have been a soldier's add-on feature to add to the curb appeal.
Good luck and keep us posted of your progress. And you may well hear from forum members regarding suggestions or specific guns. Overall a trustworthy bunch.

The RHSA (SS) didn't mark their kits in any way, and generally did not carry Lugers.

Matching magazines are somewhat rare, and rather expensive. You may wait some time before finding a dealer offering one with both of them.

"Jess"...You did not put a location in your profile...It's possible that there may be members near you willing to sell a bring-back...

The way collectors work is...They try to 'flesh out' their collection with representative examples of whatever Luger they are interested in...And when a better example comes along, they will sell off the 'placeholder' Luger they had bought originally...Gradually upgrading their collection...

So, although you may be looking for a well-used example of a bring-back rather than an 'as-new' example, someone here may have just what you're looking for...

Be prepared to pay in the neighborhood of $3,000 for a gun with the specifications you desire. They are out there, but you may have to wait for a decent rig to come along.

I think it's a nice thought to buy your husband a 1940 Luger, I don't live in the States so I couldn't really address you to anybody in particular, but I would give you a good advice: don't be in a hurry, and if you find something interesting get as many details as you can then get in touch with this Forum, where I'm sure there will be always somebody ready to help you.
