While I'm Waiting For Ted To Remove The Rear Sight
I got a look of a 1920 9mm Luger Carbine barrel. It appears the base of the barrel is reinforced! I welcome any comments! Eric

Eric,
It is not exactly a "reinforcement", it is just part of the mount for the rear sight. There is nothing about the gun or ammunition that requires reinforcement.

It appear that Kenyan was right, using left over parts. So it is therefore correct according to Kenyan. Ill leave it as it is. I might not like the post surgical result!

seems to be massive confusion in communication here...Eric's carbine should not have a rear toggle with a v-notch sight like regular Lugers....it'll be "more correct" with a smooth rear toggle like an Artillery, of course not original, but then it wasn't before!

I decided to keep it as is. Sometime I might sell it and I would sell it as it came from DWM. Who am I to second guess its' maker!!I have been offered a replacement from a good friend and collector. Whats stoping me is my original toggle assembly is numbered to the gun a '31. To remove it would create a carbine no longer original.'The so called mistake was put there 90 years ago at DWM. Obviously the multitude of inspectors saw nothing wrong. It had to be noticed. Funny a few professionals saw past the lil sight and along with DWM to appreciate the carbine for whats its worth!Who am I to change its history!!~!EJB

EJB, It's hard to tell from your one photo of your carbine's frame, if it is in fact the long M1902 type, which should have the "sightless" dished rear toggle, or the later short frame M1920 type (probably this one, judging from the 4 digit serial under the barrel) which as mentioned above normally have the same rear toggle as an LPO8. If your frame has the M1902 features, I do have a spare M1902 Carbine rear toggle link. TH

Thank You Tom, Ive been offered a replacement from George already but mine is original to the gun. I would rather own a carbine with a mistake over 90 years and questionable but original!! These were unique pieces and who am I to change it in any way!I content with the way it left DWM passing its final inspection and numerous during construction. It would be a sin to change it as it was 90 years 90 years ago. Whats worse it is no longer original. Thanks again and I'll leave it as it is especially if a few a DWM f'ed up! Whats more amazing it got past all the inspectors. Its way to late to try to change history! Thank to You and George and Ted upon whose hands I trusted. We both agreed to do nothing. Please anytime you might want to change your original she will never again be a Historical Virgin!

Thank You for your opinion. I'm more progmatic! You can't and shouldn't change history! Who knows why its there. It had to be noticed by more than one DWM inspectors. It didn't seem to be a concern by either their inspectors or the prior owners. I want to leave your option available to the future owners. I had Ted send it back as were both of the same opinion. One notch won't change my opinion one way or another! I'm proud to own it no matter Tks Eric.

Don't want to keep this going forever but what makes you think it came from the factory that way? I doubt that very very much. Nice luger anyway. Bill
