The best Luger for shooting is a late production W+F 06/29. This is probably as good as you can get:

You could hold out for one in the 78xxx SN range, but there would be a lot of competition.

I will be 66 TOMORROW... Gees those birthdays just seem to flash on by!

Retired from the Army in February 1988... still working full time for a federal law enforcement agency as a contractor...Luger time? this forum is the only Luger time I seem to get!

Bill Lyon is one of the few people on the forums that can boast he is older than me (I"m 74) . I have been collecting since I was 17 and still having fun.

Just to get ahead of the crowd, let me wish you a "premature" (pun intended) Happy Birthday John. Hope you have many more so that you too can retire and indulge in the hobby more.

I hope Bill Lyon and Ron Wood keeps hanging around because they make me feel like I'm just one of the younger squirts, wont see 73 for a few more weeks. Although I bought my first Luger at auction in early "64", I wasn't able to become more active in that collecting field until I could get my kids through College and married off but since around 2007 or so I find I have the time and the funds to get a little more involved in this fantastic hobby.
