luger basement find...

Hello, iam new to the luger forum. i found a couple of guns well i was cleaning out a uncles basement. i know he served in ww2 and brought a couple of these guns home with him. i was wondering if anyone could be useful and have any info on this luger. serial # is 4764. iam guessing by the swiss cross that its swiss. thanks, Ray

This Luger appears to be a parts gun, as the serial numbers on many parts do not match the serial numbers on the frame.

Howdy do, welcome to the forum you have a very mismatched 1906 swiss model I think its a military contract one but still heavily mismatched. should be .30 luger has the control proof of Herr Vogelsang.It also has at least one mismatch nazi part on it. Are you planning on selling it?

A slight correction, you have an Old Model 1900 Swiss military Luger. The guys are correct that it has some mis-matched parts. From what I can see the takedown lever and side plate are from different guns. What is really notable is that the forward toggle link and breechblock are of the New Model variety from 1906 or later. This is a bit of a coincidence since this is the second Old Model Swiss Luger with a New Model forward toggle link and breechblock that has been reported within a week.

I went off Datigs book with serial to come up with 06. military and commercial can be determined by serial number placement? I still cant figure out the difference between 1900 and 1906. dished toggles? trigger and frame widths? sear bar length? frame around grips?

Two quick tip-offs for a 1900: The trigger guard is the same width as the frame and dished toggles.
If the grips were removed you would see that the mainspring is a flat laminated spring rather than a coil spring. The dished toggles also come with a toggle lock in the right toggle knob. The breech block is flat on top and has a flat spring extractor.

A 1906 has a trigger guard that is narrower than the frame and the toggle knobs are flat. The Luger being discussed here has been modified to a 1906 type breechblock. Serial numbering on a 1906 didn't start until around 25,000, way later than the 4-digit serial number on this gun.

The revolver looks like an early S&W Model 10.

Nice grouping of guns and in generally good condition to find in a Basement!!

thank you, the other guns are a p38, a s&w m&p, and a mossberg .22 brownie.also not pictured was a quality hardware m1 carbine. not a bad haul for cleaning out a basement on a crappy sunday
