Does anyone make a quality, non painted repro holster?

So years ago I hastily purchased a repro holster at a gun show, it seemed fine to me, having no real experience with real P08 holsters. Thankfully I didn't pay much for it, because I was disappointed to discover that the color had been painted on with a latex like paint.

I've since learned a lot more about what makes quality leather, and I have seen myself the well aging qualities of genuine old leather; my WW1 mauser mag pouches look great, even after 100 years and hard wartime use.

So i'd like a decent holster for my shooter, one I could actually use from time to time without harming a super old antique, so my question is: does anybody make a quality, non painted P08 holster? If not, should I just shell out the cash for a genuine not particularly valuable article? Or is my thinking wrong headed to begin with?

I would say your "painted" example is the exception, not the rule.

there are many "good" repros available, in black, brown, and natural; probably cost $50 max.

You can find a good original holster for $100 to $150, which might actually be a better investment/user. JMHO.

Get serious. I did not offer any holsters for sale; and if lucky enough to buy one or three- I would not turn around and sell them !

I have bought several on these forums- from Wylon as an example, for $150 or less; and some from ebay.

If one wants a bargain, he must put in the time and effort and be patient; grab them quick when someone puts them on the board or makes an error and puts a low buy it now price on ebay.

They are out there, as you well know- you buy all you see!!!

He could purchase a Pakistanian one for just a few bucks. Or a decent original one on Ebay. It can happen. Keep plugging at it.

Hi to all, buying anything has a lot to do with want! .... And, it seems as if no matter how hard you try, knowledge comes later. That's why I don't feel bad about a beginner making a mistake or two, buying an item of greater or lesser value, again, depending on want? Another option is buying a nice condition item that is original, but needs a little work.... That's where Jerry B shines! ....... He can bring holsters back from the edge... And at a very reasonable cost... It's all part of the learning process, I sometimes buy repro stuff simply because I like it... and I know better than most that it is a dead end street... but, I just like it!..... Yes it appears that holsters are getting more expensive. Good WW1 holster are getting harder to find and expensive. Don I don't even remember what I sold you?? Still looking for a good 1912 military luger holster. Bill

In the past I have bought CMR repro holsters. One for a Navy Luger and another for a P.08. Both holsters were too small (short) to allow the pistols to properly fit.

I am suprised to read your comment and not to have been informed of this problem. The same company has been making our holsters for 10 years. The pattern has never been changed in this time and we have never had a complaint of this nature before. I am wondering what the barrel lengths of your pistols are and if they have been modified i.e. not standard issue!

We check all our holsters for size & fitting before we send them out to our customers which rather raises my concerns?

Roscoe..Perhaps you should check the barrel lengths of your pistols and see if they have been modified i.e. not standard issue! Blame the customer? Cheesy to say the least.

This has been a common complaint for years. I have had many CMR holsters through my shop with this condition. To deny it makes you and your company ...well you figure it out.

The Germans must have had this happen on occasion too..I think they solved it in WW2 holsters by making the nose a little long. I often see a half inch of rag stuffed into the muzzle end of holsters.

one of them was a cut down artillery, I don't recall the other.

I understand that holsters which have been repaired are slightly less expensive than unmodified ones; this appeals to me, as someone who intends on some very light use. Thoughts/sources?

Also, if I were to get a somewhat damaged original and have it repaired/restored, how much would that probably cost me?
