Default Barrel re-lining & re-barrel???

Hello All;

I picked up my 42/1940 Luger yesterday. This gun has the stock lug removed, so I want to make it my shooter grade. I haven't got out to fire it yet, probable after work today. The bore is fair so I'm hoping for the best. If not who does re-lining or re-barrel work on Lugers? I really would like to get it re-line and preserve to original barrel. The gun is all matching and I like to see all those numbers matching.

Thanks Bob

Default There is a shop in Ohio that relines pistol barrels...

Mentor Arms Company, 6105 Magnolia Drive, Mentor, Ohio 44060, 440-257-2457 specializes in Broomhandle Mausers and does good work on Lugers.

NOTE: I retrieved this info using the search function at the top of the main discussion page... This info was courtesy of forum member "RET" some time ago ...and may not now be valid. Hopefully they are still in business... Let us know how you make out with your project...

regards,

Bob,

You may be surprised at how accurate the pistol may be with the fair bore. I have seen these barrels actually perform better than excellent bores; you never know until you give it a try.

If you do have it relined, please keep us posted on how well it works out.

John,

I can't verify this, but I heard that the gentleman that owned Mentor Arms retired and is not doing this work anymore. I heard that he was the best for relining and it is a shame to lose this type expertise.

Redmans Rifling & Reboring, 189 Nichols, Omak, WA 98841, PH: 509-826-5512. Send legal size stamped envelope for info. I had a 96 Broomhandle rebored to 9mm and they did an excellent job. They have been in business 27 yrs and make their own liners.

Hi John,

Alas, right on target. Jim Oehlenschlager (owner and head honcho at Mentor) retired and could find no one he trusted to do the work heâ??d done so well for so long. Mentor Arms no longer exists :-(

Best regards,

Kyrie

Hi Folks!

Bob, Marvin is right on target. Shoot the pistol from a rest, and use different brands of ammunition. Iâ??ve seen pistols and rifles with bores that would be an insult to a sewer pipe shoot groups youâ??d have to see to believe. I have one Kar98k that was converted from 8x57 to 7.62x63 by Norway with a bore that has only traces of rifling in part of the bore that will literally put bullets through the same hole at 50 yards and shoot half-inch groups at 100 yards. I won a lot of range bets with that rifle before folks learned not to bet against it

Best regards,

Kyrie

Kyrie,

I had an 03 Springfield made in the early 1920s which had a superb bore except for two BIG pits in it. One was near the middle and the other near the muzzel. You would think this would ruin the accuracy, but it was the best shooting 03 I ever had. I could keep 8 out of 10 rounds in the "X" ring at 200 yards prone every time.

A few months ago I had Redmons bore and rifle a .30 Luger bl. to 9mm. Exc. work. Cost a bit over $100 + shipping. Quite a bit of money but the owner wanted to retain origional bl. and markings on a Baby Luger conversion I was doing for him.

AZ Bob, I think that everyone is missing your point. You now have a 9mm and wish the reline the orig barrel to 9mm. I don't know of anyone that is doing this. A lot of folk will bore out a 7.65 to 9mm, but I'm afraid that you would loose too much metal, boring out a 9mm to put in a 9mm liner. I don't recommend it for shooting purposes.
