Metal parts:
- lenght;
- diameter;
- lenght od threaded segment

Wooden handle:
- lenght;
- diameter.

I have made navy cleaning rod. Threaded segment is not like original, it is hard to made, but other parts is like original. It will use. Now, I must make loading tool. Pete, thanks for scheme!

Nikola, Yes a nice photo..Are you sure about your measurements? The wood handle looks way too fat. Cleaning rod handles were quite slim actually.

Wood handle diameter in middle is 17 mm, it's same like in scheme.

While this may be true for the middle, what are the ends supposed to measure? I still think it's too fat!

Hi Jerry,

In the Eugene Bender big book on page 227 you will see the blueprint schematic drawings for the LP-08 cleaing rod. On page 244 you will see a similar schematic drawing for the Navy cleaning rod.

The ends of the wooden "barrel" on the Navy is 13,5 mm in diameter while the LP-08 tool is 13,0 mm at its ends.

There is some difference in the spacing of the "grooves" in both "barrels" as well. The Navy is shown with grooves that are 1,2 mm in width, while the LP-08 is shown with grooves that are 0,7 mm in width.

Both "barrels" have 17,0 mm at their thickest part and overall length of the "barrel" on both is the same at 40,0 mm.

Sometimes you see these (with some green oxidation...) selling at gun shows for over $ 350...buyers thinking they are the "real" item...I think CMR sells them for $ 200.

Pete, Yes..I was interested to know Nickloa's measurements for the ends...The wood barrel tapers and on original rods, the taper is such that they look quite slim. In fact, if they are overly fat they are unlikely to fit into an original holster. That has always been the mistake of most repro's..too fat a barrel.

The wooden barrel on both this new repop and ALL the fakes I have seen is simply not right and it is a dead give away if you have seen an original.

Can't quite figger out why the boosters can't master something which seems so elemental.

Tom, It's all attention to detail. They are too lazy to get it right. CMR holsters are a good example..With just a little attention to the fine details they could actually make a presentable holster. As it is, they will not fine tune it, so it remains crap.

Having seen several originals ones the "Navy Cabal" guys display at the SE NAPCA events in the summer in TN state, I think the difference between an original and the very-good repro units is pronounced in the area and machining of the "zig-zag" portion of the rod.

Tom, Then they must be shortsighted in the extreme...it would cost nothing to make a few changes and do it right. A Better product with no more cost than before would result in MORE profit.
Why don't they do it?
