Inglis High Power pistol "DP"

I have been offered to trade an Inglis Browning High Power, but I have no idea of its value. It is the same gun pictured in "Inglis Diamond" by Clive M. Law's book (page 115) and also in "The Browning High Power Automatic Pistol" by R. Blake Stevens' book (page 110). I have posted pics of the gun. I saw a similar one in Joe Salter's website, but I thought that the price was high. Off course, I have to take in consideration my ignorance in these types of weapons.

Tony,

If it helps you in valuing the gun, I can tell you about the 2 I own and my experiences in procuring them.

My first is S/N 4CH1036. It is all original with the original painted finish in over 90% condition along with its excellent 1945 dated stock. The stock has strap and has at least a 95% finish that is only marred by a few dings and one off colored place around the "button." The gun has all matching numbers and correct magazine. It was bought last year from a good friend who sold it to me for just under $!000.00 which was a good deal. This is much more common than your boxed set however. My gun is probably worth around the $1500.00 range, but they trade in a very small circle.

My second is S/N 4 T3059. It is in excellent condition with over 95% of the original paint, unit marked, original Canadian Wartime textile holster in excellent condition along with 2 matching mags and original tool. I purchased it for $775.00 and consider it well bought.

The original box and condition of the piece you are interested in makes it quite a nice find. The most remarkable item also on your gun is the Canadian label on the foregrip. That is very rare to find on a gun in satisfactory condition.

Tony,

This is a VERY nice set you have there. Overall condition, high bluing percentage & remaining crest on the frontstrap makes it very desirable. JL marked on spine mags ??

The accessories look genuine. A great set especially the web frog for the shoulder stock ( rare ). Is the shoulder stock marked ?? SA LTD 45 ?? Laynard is also of interest.........Well the whole set is !!

DP pistols are mostly found in the 5CH or 9T Series. Observed examples usually have numbers following the DP markings. They are rare as produced in 1946-47.

I cannot speak of the USA market but here in Canada, there is a strong market for those Canadian pistols. This DP set would start in the $3500+ area around here.........

Marc, I have several of those "rare" broad arrow C and Manufacture marked stock frogs with metal clip, available in unissued condition @$25 each. Also have a few original "JI" marked mags available in the $50 vg to $75 exc range. TH

I two have a couple of these guns. It appears to me the decal is way to nice. Compared with the overall condtion of the gun. I beleive the decal to be a replacement. I seen decals these being sold at the PA show some 4 years ago. Just my 2 ct.

I saw a sheet of these decals on E-bay several months ago. My 2 cents also..

Jack says "The original box" Jack, do you believe this box to be original to a military piece? I think it's an aftermarket or made up piece.

Thanks for your comments. I was looking at the pictured in the book "Inglis Diamond" and the decal looks pretty good as well. It is my understanding that the gun offered in trade was purchased from Simpson Ltd. Galesburg, IL a couple of years back. The one listed in the book was courtesy of the Centre for Forensic Sciences in Toronto. Do you know if the Centre for Forensic Sciences in Toronto is some kind of museum? I just wonder how Simpson obtained this gun from the Centre for Forensic Sciences. I compared the gun pictured in the book ant the gun offered to me and they both have the same dings/markings. I am pretty sure that it is the same gun, but how did it get here?

Jerry, I don't think the box is at all military original, but an original box made up to possibly to hide the contents from prying eyes. It seems most definitely made for the purpose to conceal and store the weapon and accessories contained.

At any rate, It is a beautiful Set-up that I would proudly own.
