Default 8 R 6 2 unit marking

Dear all,

This is a Luger in my friends collection. Am I right in translating this marking as: "8 Regiment, 6 squadron, weapon no 2" ??

Serial no 810 e. These are the only photos I have of it.

Regards

Hinrik

Hello Hinrik,

Your translation of the mark is close, but not quite.

8th Reserve(cursive R) Infantry Regiment 6th Kompanie weapon #2.

What is the date of the luger?

Hinrik,
The suffix is a "b" not "e".

Dear Ron and Mike,

Thanks for quick response. I see that its a "b" now. Thanks. I took these photos over 2 years ago, and I dont remember what the date of the gun was. I have a number of interesting WWII guns in my collection, but my friend who owns this gun, has about 300. (not 300 Lugers!)

Ron, does gun no 2 indicate that this gun might of been carried by an officer?

I will go to his house next month and take more photos of this gun and the Navy Luger he has.

Thanks again

Hinrik

Hinrik,

The 2 is just the weapon number, nothing more. Officers were required to purchase their own side arms. This would have been issued to an enlisted man.

Ron
