Repro Grips Quality?
Has anyone purchased repro grips from Simpson or Shattuck? Are they as claimed as far as quality?
Any ideal source for best quality? Thanks! Ron

Ron,
Nill Grips (made in Germany) are excellent ones. |

I have purchased 3 pairs of the Nil grips, and they are of excellent quality. The only objectionable feature is that they are made from strongly grained walnut and are not uniform in color as were the originals. According to Thor, the source for Nil grips in Texas has closed down. You might try contacting the Nil factory in Germany to locate a local dealer. Good luck. Luke

Luke, Thanks for the info. I think I know the source. Did a search AFTER I asked the question. Looks like I would learn to do first things first.
Oh well, never claimed to be "vury smort". Ron

Unfortunately, there are some NILL-GRIP price changes now occuring and we are temporarily unable to post the prices on our web site. We will re-post prices as soon as we get further details from the manufacturer. In the mean time, if you are interested in purchasing NILL-GRIPS, please contact us. Call Larry's Guns at: (207) 772- 0998 Good news is they have dropped a little in price from the $105 level. I tried to buy two sets yesterday and they were out of the checkered ones. Need to call them and tell them what you need and quantity. Very nice people.

Ron:
A little while ago, someone posted about buying a set of quality reproduction walnut Luger grips from CMR International Classic Arms Company (of Kent England)at about one-half the price of the currently available Nil Grips. The poster seemed quite happy with the quality of his new grips, particualrly with the quality of the workmanship around the safty area (always a problem area). I own a pair of the Nil Grips. They fit the pistol quite nicely, but do have a very different "feel" to them, as their sharp checkering bites into your hand when you shoot the pistol in a slightly uncomfortable mannor. Also, when I got them, they were as black as the night, having been soaked in oil for some time. As I haven't used them enough to really get the oil level down to normal, I really can't tell you just what the grain of these grips looks like. I have been in contact with CMR regarding the purchase of a pair of their grips, and should be hearing back from them shortly. Perhaps, we can inquire from other forum members regarding their experiences with the CMR grips and make an informed decision accordingly. Sieger |

Sieger, I saw that post, but I think someone said that CMR is constantly back ordered? Please let me know if you find otherwise.
Thanks! Ron

Actually, I bought a pair of the CMR grips. They have thicker edges and they do not fit under the safety as well as the Nil grips. They are $35.00 to $38.00 (depends on the exchange rate) plus about 15 dollars shipping from England. On the positive side, they are uniformly soft brown, as the original walnut grips were, without the harsh grain patterns of the Nils. Charles at CMR is very helpful. Luke

I also bought a pair of grips from CMR recently. I can't comment on their fit vs others but the fit seems OK to me. I applied a few coats of Watco Danish oil in medium walnut and am happy with the look
