Amazing how the elimination of the swell at the bottom of the front grip strap destroys the profile of the Luger. This is undoubtably the least attractive Luger manufactured.

Default Johnny! I agree! But the 06/29 Swiss......

still has a Luger appeal all it's own! I don't know what it is about the 06/29, but I really feel I would like to own one someday.....In the past, they have been to expensive, and almost all have been in great condition....so shooter grades are non existent! The feature I find most unappealing is the lack of checkering on the small parts....don't know if I could live with that....if I could get enough original parts to start with, frame, barrelled receiver, sideplate, etc.....I would like to make a mongrel dog 06/29 shooter! same only different! till...later....G.T.

Default Swiss profile

I also find the 1929 Swiss unattractive. The profile of the front grip strap is the first thing that strikes me but also the lack of the checkering on the toggles and the flat button type safety lever. The major appeal is just to have one as an example of a Luger variation. Does anyone have any ideas on why there is a front swell on the standard Luger grip? It serves no purpose other than ergonomic as far as I can tell.

Hi Hakan! Me too! I am not really to interested in an original, as I really want one for plinking, they just look like there made to shoot with no muss, no fuss, just a most basic luger........the mauser Swiss models from the seventy's has a bulkier feel to them as the grips are quite thick and angular.....I would rather have the original! Has anyone seen the ones offered by FGS? I wonder what the story is on their 06/29's? till...later....G.T.

Default FGS Swiss Lugers

GT,

I think that you should buy one and evaluate it for us, then we will know whether to get one also or not!

G.T. why not just tell them you are evaluating one for the Lugerforum (which you are sure will generate sales) and tell them you will be giving us a detailed report on the accuracy, fit and finish, desirability of the pistol and also the way they treat a person as a customer, the friendliness of their staff, total customer satisfaction, etc. I don't see how they can refuse a well worded request of such a nature.

While we're on the subject of Swiss Lugers: Does anyone know if the Swiss mags were interchangeable with German-made Lugers? Thanks.

The Luger mags for both .30 caliber and 9mm for Swiss and German made Lugers are interchangeable. Current repros also fit both Swiss and German in both caliber.

Default for some reason, early 1900 Lugers...

(probably including early Swiss!)Had some extremely tight fitting mag's! and, I know that some of the early mag,s had a totally flat checkered mag. button........I had a 4 digit serial 1900 A.E. and the mag. that was original to the gun fit nice, all others had drag or interferance.....till...later...G.T.

Many of the early Lugers had the frame relieved to use the later type magazines with the raised button rather than just the flat button mags.

I have a four digit 1900 AE that only wants to take the original magazine. I have found that the early magazines were turned in more at the top in the area of the folded seam. There is about .010 difference in the width at the top of the magazine, and this is where they seem to want to bind.

That is good to know. Anyone who purchases a wood bottom magazine should probably double check if they are looking for a mag for an old model Luger. I have never encountered any interchangeability problems with a new model. I have had some magazines that were tight in some frames and looser in others. I think that this is just due to how some magazines are treated. The habit of 'smacking' a magazine up into the well is a bad practice (maybe ok for IPSC but not with Lugers) that should be avoided unless you have a large budget for new clips.

Default Johnny P. is right!......

There is a distinct difference in the early mag's....you can't see it with the naked eye, but it exsist's! I think this would be a good indicator of an original mag. for an early 1900, if the mag drops free, it's probably correct! till...later...G.T.
