John, these are two nice Krieghoffs! The 1943 one is up for auction from George Anderson who we can all trust 1000%. Did you notice that the "1943" over the chamber is uneven and perhaps hand stamped. Was this customary for later Krieghoffs? The other specimen, 1937, is from "docholl" who appears to be a local northern Californian. There is no reserve! This piece can be picked up "for a song" as they say. Would like to see what else he has.

Hey Doc,
I agree with you - both are excellent examples. While the 1943 mag looks like an overstamp (as George is aware of), it is properly proofed. As for the 1943 Chamber Date - yes - it is absolutely correct and follows the pattern with the "4" and the "3". While there were variances given the holder for the die striker/retainer piece to piece, most chamber dates follow a tell tale pattern of the numerals, their set and relation to the baseline. As for the 1937 - if I didn't have one - I'd be bidding on this piece. I don't know the seller, so I hope the prospective buyers ask for some detail pics. Without a reserve, it can probably be acquired for less then the current dealer retail pricing - unless the "bidding frenzy" takes hold.... |

Hi Guys, I would like to echo your comments regarding George!! He is an upright guy and my dealings with him have been great. I already told him that if I were an Anchor Type, I'd be bidding on that Krieg!!

That collector is gonna be me!
Actually, as someone who spent 17+ years as a military flyer, I actually relate to Kriegs personally more than I do to Navy guns. So, off we go into the world of kriegs... Tom A. |

OUTSTANDING!!!!! That is absolutely a terrific cornerstone piece for a Krieg collection, Tom... Congratulations!! I watched as that auction closed down - and had no idea who the buyer was at that time... I corresponded with George some time back about that particuliar piece (see this Krieg Forum some time ago).
Welcome to the Krieghoff world Tom - with a grande entrance... Simply outstanding.... !!!!! |

Hi Pete,
Nah, you don't *quite* get it...buy all the accessories as soon as you decide what field you are going into, because sure as God made little green apples, once you buy the gun, the accessories will dry up completely. Tom A |

Actually Tom,
..I really do...Just pulling your chain... You should see how many minty holsters I have that are sitting empty and I must have 30 magazines now that do not have a gun to keep them company...figured the gun is probably the easiest part...some of this stuff will be trading stock, but others will be core parts of my little, increasing collection... Regards, Pete... |

Tom, It would be interresting to know what a "complete" collection of Navies is, at least from your perspective. Congratulations on a formidable task well done.

Hi Bruce,
My definition of "complete" is one of each year and, in the case of property marks, a representative sampling per year, of all that were produced from 1904 through 1972. There will be, of course, some property marks that do not appear in my collection as time and money are finite commodities. I am missing a few of the odd property marks and a couple of late Kreigsmarine guns, which should be relatively easy to acquire, but otherwise, I have the rest, all in at least 95% plus. It has not been easy or cheap but it has been fun getting here. The holsters have ben harder to score than the guns, FWIW. Tom A. |

Hi Tom....
Well, to get you off on Kriegs, here is a similiar list of "types" and variations.... G - 1 variation S - 3 variations 36 - 1 variation 1936 - 1 variation 1937 - 1 variation 1938 - 1 variation 1940 - 1 variation 1941 - 1 variation 1942 - 1 variation 1943 - 1 variation 1944 - 2 variations 1945 - 1 variation Postwar - 4 variations Presentation - 1 variation Commercial (all years) - 3 variations Now - above those, you can start collecting HK RIGS. What I'm focused on are "HK" proofed RIGS with verified shoulder holsters, rather then just the "run of the mill" HK RIGS.... Aren't Kriegs great???!!! (Oh - BTW - check your PMs, OK? I replied to yours earlier..... Thanks!) |
