Post Blast from the Past

Just got in from the woods, took my 1918 Erfurt P08, a BYF 44 K98, and an AC 44 P38. The rifle was consistent 3" 5 round groups at 50 yds with Turkish milsurp ammo. Second time its been fired since WWII. As always the P08 out shot the P38 at 20 yds. These old guns amaze me. I love the smell of gunpowder. Ya'll may think I'm crazy, but when I pulled the bolt back on the 98K after firing the fifth round, the gun actually smiled and said "Danke, das habe Ich gebraucht". (Thanks, I needed that)

RK,

when your guns start smiling and talking to you in German, maybe it's time to lay back down in front of that Humvee and get a reality check!

Moonshine Hugh, Moonshine, he lives in Alerbamer by the way...

Was home of the MP's now, just an Army Depot with tons of old guns. I'll bet those Springfields and Garands would talk to ya too

I've got a National Guard buddy who was an armorer at a maintenance center. Through normal business he got to know the folks at Anniston Army Depo. Volunteered when down there to help. Took a while,(years)of helping and he is a very good armorer, but they hand carried his CMP applications thru and allowed him to pick his guns from the vaults. I've seen them. He has an unfired 1903 w/all accessories incl bayonet, an 030A3 the same, a Winchester M-1, and an IH MIC.
Last night on "Histories Mysteries" was the gangster gun special. Showed the result of the Gun Act of 1934, two guys on a boat full of guns
were using coal scoops to load up pistols and dump them in the ocean. Imagine whant went under. I'll probably take the Japanese guns out today, I'll wear the helmet and see if that helps me understand what the guns say to me. I'm no good in Japanese. And I'll pass on a replay of the Hummer, that really hurt.

Roadkill,
Someone pulled a prank on your friend if he has an IH M1C. Unlike the M1D, the M1C was made from brand new Springfield receivers. The receivers were sent to Griffin & Howe while still in the white and not heat treated. G&H drilled and tapped the receivers, fitted and numbered the scope mount, and returned the receivers to Springfield for completion. The M1C will always be a Springfield and will fall into a serial range from late 1944 to mid 1945. The IHC was not built until early 1953.

I probably got my Cs & Ds & IHs ect mixed up. I saw the guns a while back, they are absoultely mint. All the accessories - leather slings, cleaning kits, bayonets, scope case, were really nice. RK

RK:

I have a BYF 1944 98k also, and I swear it must be the brother to yours. If I ever load any commercial ammo instead of milsurp rounds, it spits them out, cusses me out in German, and then sneers at me. Major attitude problem, LOL.
