New virgin brass in .30 Luger is on Ebay everyday for cheap. I bought a 1000 rd bag for $30 a years ago.

Rick, Doug is correct. There's plenty of .30 Luger brass available on e-bay at reasonable prices.

FWIW, I've made hundreds of 7.65mm Luger cases from 5.56mm military cases using nothing more than standard reloading dies, a tubing cutter and a Forester case trimmer.

I cut the military case to the approximate length being careful not to cut it too short. I lube the case and run it through the sizing die to form it. I then trim to length and finally turn the neck to thin the neck thickness. That's the biggest problem with using 5.56mm or .223 cases... neck thickness. If using .312" bullets, I reduce the neck to .008" thick. If I swage the bullet down to .309 or .308", I reduce the neck thickness to .312". Reducing the neck thickness can be avoided by using 9mm Winchester Magnum or Largo cases.

The best method is to buy factory brass and forget forming altogether! [img]smile.gif[/img]

The necked down 9mm case to 30 caliber was an interesting project that sort of lost steam. Of course it would require chambering of new barrels to the new round. With the source of 9mm cases you would have a new cartridge that you could make tons of ammo for. Of course it would not be usuable in the 30 Luger barrels, but fun for those looking for such projects. <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />
