Default 1920 commercial in 9mm? (pics added)

How hard are 1920 commercials in 9mm to come by? I picked up about a 95% one at the gunshow today and noticed Simpson only had 30 cals for sale. Thanks c

There is no rust on this pistol just alot of hard dried brown grease I have not removed yet. thanks c

Is the barrel original? Proofed and witness marked? Some military and police were made in the 1920s

Yes the barrel is proofed wittness marked and serial numbered. It has a 3 7/8" 9mm barrel. All numbers match including grips and has a tin unumbered wood bottom mag. Thanks c

commericial with ONLY Germany stamped on it, no AE or anything?

Because thousands of alphabet commericials were made in 9mm for army and police (well, barrels swapped out most likely before issue)

Clint,
Does it have an s,t, or u suffix? If so it is a 29DWM, and would fit into a range of commercial S#'s that mostly went to military or police, like Ed stated.

It is 1920 chamber dated with no import markings and does not say germany on it anywhere. SN is 7004 with what looks like a n suffix. No police saftey. I will try and post some pics. thanks c

Sounds like a military contract; as the 1920 is likely a date and DWM hadn't gotten whacked yet for making guns; so you see 1920 army and police.

That "n" is in an odd place to me?

Any proof marks on the right? Can't tell from your pics. 1920s military and police should have E/ArA4 or E/WaA4. An alphabet 'n' series would have been made late 1923 to first half of 1924. This according the Still's Weimar and Early Lugers.

Nice looking piece!

DWM produced four series of 1920-dated Lugers for the military and police. They were: no suffix, "a", "b" and "n" suffixes (HWIS p.36). I have no explanation for the "n" series but it definitely exists.

The more I read the more confused I get. The proofs on the right side are three Eagle over ArA4 markings. It would seem to be a 1920 military except for the n suffix. I guess the mystery is why I love these things so much. I just know I cant find anything just like it for sale anywhere. thanks c

See also this thread about the n-suffix 1920 DWMs - http://luger.gunboards.com/showthrea...light=n-suffix. I have recorded quite a few additional examples since that posting.
