Default Need some advice

Hi, just join the forum.

I am looking to purchase a shooter type Luger to start my collection. Can anyone help me with pricing? what's my realistic chance of getting one for under a $800? that's about my budget at the moment.

thanks,

Quite good. Check the For Sale sub-forum; they're posted often.

...and Welcome!

John, moved your thread to the New Collectors area.

You should think about, are you looking for a luger, or a luger from a certain time period?

If I were looking for a good shooter, I'd be all over the one the DZ currently has listed for sale. He's a good guy and the gun looks like a good value.

Thanks, to answer your question, i guess i don't have a specific time period or type in mind, right now i just want something that shoots well, and functions normally, and not missing any parts.

you also need to decide on 9 mm or 30 caliber. price of 30 is high.

This can sometimes be a problem if you buy from a dealer that does not shoot his merchandise. If you buy from an individual that is a shooter, then he can confirm shooting status.

in regard to your first question. You should be able to get a real humdinger. You in my opinion should look for an all matching pistol that has been refinished or has cosmetic deficiency's and you should be able to find one of those for around 800.00 online or perhaps locally in your area. If you buy online factor in the ffl transfer fee and shipping wich runs between 35-100$ depending on how you do it.
As long as it is not a rare variation paying more then that for a shooter is pointless in my humble opinion its not like they are colt single actions or something . Your best bet is on this forum becuase simsons ltd is charging 900 minimum on anything.

A Friend warn me about "Fake" lugers out there, but i figure for $800 as my spending limit for my first luger, does it really matter? If all i wanted is a shooter to flash it around my local NRA RANGE?

Its pathetic the amount of fakes that have been perpetrated since as early as the 50's probably.
You can always count on someone wanting to make a buck.
You are correct sir , about 1500-450 is what a shooter grade price range falls into depending on righteousness , flavor , caliber , maker.

a run of the mill dwm circa ww1 to a mauser or simson all the way up to a krieghoff , russian or friekorps marked .

Haha, I guess i am safe then, if all i care about is a good SHOOTING gun with a decent bore, markings, proofs....etc they can all be scrubbed for now, and i won't pay a cent more than $801 before shipping and TRANSFER FEE.

Are you two referring to fake collectible Lugers??? I can't imagine anything else being 'faked' as a Luger (except maybe ERMAs).

It would not be profitable to 'fake' an $800 shooter...IMO anyway...

I don't think there are many "fake" Lugers, however there are many real Lugers that have been changed or marked to increase there value based on rarity or variation. There are many Lugers that have been made up of parts from other different Lugers, but that does not make them "fake"

If your looking for a shooter, I don't think you need to worry about a fake Luger. But you might want to stick to a 9mm as ammo for a .30 cal is sometime hard to find and is expensive
buy a Luger that shoots and meets your needs.

This looks to be a decent deal on a shooter. Looks to be refinished. The price is right on it, no matter what.

Not even worth close to $1500. Presently at $670 with no reserve. Wouldn't go over $700-$750 on it.
