Default "Deathhead" Lugers

I would like to know more about the so called "Deathhead"
Lugers. I understand they were not associated with the nazi Period. If their is a good synopsis about them I would like to read it. Also where was the Deathead stamped on the pistol?
thank you

Chuck, do a word search here on the forum on deathhead, there has been several discussions and would be good to see some comments.

Chuck, It is generally thought that the original TK was stamped above the chamber date by some elite WW1 Infantrie units. Some also believe that the post WW1 "Friecorp" units may be responceable for these as some marked most of their trucks etc with the "skull & crossed bones" (Todenkompt). I would not pay a premium for such markings, as I know of at least 2 restorers with perfect "death head" dies. TH
