Mauser 1939 - 30 Luger
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I would like to find out more about this gun.
It was manufactured by Mauser and has 1939 stamped on the barrel. It chambers a 30 Luger. Below are some pictures. [The pictures were posted on another site and were taking too long to load, so I moved them into a post below] Last edited by mwgreen00; 11-05-2010 at 06:26 PM. |

Hello and Welcome mwgreen00!!!
Here is a basic problem: linking pics off-site. It is requested that you post your pics *on-site* so that they endure over time... The very people who can answer your questions are the people behind corporate firewalls that block pics (and even certain sites). There are other knowledgeable people who still retain dial-up connections (rural areas for instance) and can't wait 10 minutes for overlarge pics to load. This site will accept large pics (to an extent) and resize them in-thread. Posting the pics to LugerForums also assures that they will show up as part of the web page. Good luck and we all hope you enjoy this site!

Welcome to the forum. Question. Would a 1939 Mauser have straw parts? Or does the Banner mean that it is a commercial model?

A 1939 Luger would not have strawed parts. Strawing was discontinued in early '37. My guess is that it was rebarreled and refinished at some point.
Is there a serial number on the bottom of the barrel?

Thank you pitsword
The trigger, magazine release, safety, and the take down lever are almost gold or brass in color. I am guessing those are "straw parts". |

The serial number on the bottom of the barrel is 5751. The top of the barrel says 1939.

Being a commercial banner, it is possible for this to have come from mauser with the strawed parts. The holster looks to ba commercial also.

According to Jan Still's Third Reich Lugers, Banner Commercials were made in 7.65, and with strawed parts. This could very well be a correct Banner Commercial.
I should have checked before I spoke. Is there a letter suffix under the serial number on the front of the frame? Ron

Another thing
I just noticed some markings on the back of the holster... see the picture below. It is stamped with "KOLN-DEUTZ 1936" There are some other markings, but I can't make them out.

See TRL, pg 220. Could it be a Mauser commercial, var. 6?

Jerry,
Didn't see any markings from the first set of pics, obviously now not a commercial. |

Stve, you mean the holster as it is military, the luger started as a commericial that went into army service.
