Default Toggle Pin Markings

In my collection I noticed that I have (2) lugers that have markings on the toggle pins. These markings show sizes and not SN's or other markings that are inherent to the gun's manufactures. The markings that are on the (2) lugers that I have are from being repaired and a new size toggle installed.

These pins are on police lugers that are from the Hessische Polizei collection. I am curious if other police lugers have these same kind of markings on toggles that have been changed out. Are these markings associated with only police lugers or are there other lugers that are not associated with being police lugers with toggles with these inscriptions.

I believe that these are machinist gauge pins. It's possible that wear required installation of over-size pins to tighten up the headspace back into specifications, and a gauge pin could be considered a good source.

If I remember correctly, axle pins used in the toggle train had to be hardened. As long as these pins had similar metallurgy, they would be safe.

Are these markings found on other lugers that are not associated with being police lugers?

A friend of mine had a bunch of these oversized pins, they were supposedly used by armorers when needed. He sold a bunch on ebay and I purchased two or three sets of them.

I will try and remember taking pictures of all of them tomorrow - they look like the 2nd pictures you show.

I was told that the action being used causes the pin to enlarge the toggle pin hole.
