Default 1917 dated 1914 DWM Navy Mauser rework questions

I have a 1917 dated 1914 Navy that I believe was reworked for WWII by Mauser. It has a 4" barrel, and a fixed sight rear toggle. The gun is all matching except the extractor, sear, and magazine. The barrel has a 42 on the bottom along with the serial number (not a restamp), and a very small "three wing eagle" with either 63 or 53 underneath. Would this be properly called a 1914 Navy Mauser Rework or just a parts gun? It has all the proper Navy (Marine) proof marks and the 1917 on the chamber and on the left side of the receiver.

jj,

Interesting gun. Are the extractor and sear numbered/marked? What type magazine does it have?

Jim,
I think that the fixed rear sight puts it onto the shooter classification even though the rework may or may not have been done by Mauser. That rear toggle is probably new to the gun and the old toggle/rear sight is now on someone elses 'new' navy Luger.

Tom, The extractor and sear are numbered.....but they do not match the rest of the gun. I received three mags with the gun. I don't know if any are proper to the gun.

Big Norm, Yes, the rear toggle and the barrel have been replaced, but are matching numbers to the gun.

Hi Jim,

It's a post WWI Reichsmarine rework. Is the Eagle straight winged or droop winged? The 42 indicates an armorers replacement Mauser barrel.

Hi Ron, Thanks for the info. The Eagle is straight winged and is located about 10 oclock maybe 1/2 inch from the receiver. The serial number (matches gun) is located about 3/4 from the receiver on the bottom of barrel. The "42" in also on the bottom about 1/2 inch from receiver. The gun itself has the crown, crown over M, and crown over M on the left receiver flat and no proofs on the right. Also, has crown on left side of breach block. I don't believe that the barrel and rear toggle were replaced by an individual because the gun is too nice for that to have happened. It wouldn't make sense to lessen the value of a 90% Navy.
