Hi Rick, I'll let the holster folks comment on it, but it isn't WWII Standard Military.

The magazine, the one out of the pistol, is an fxo and was first used in 1941. So it wasn't the type issued with your Luger.

The right side markings appear to be of the B90, B91 variety. If so, it is a first variation G-Date, made in 1935. Jan Still thinks there were around 34,000 of this variety produced.

The grips are, indeed, East German Police. They are known as VOPO Grips, which stands for Volkspolizei or Peoples Police.

Hi Rick,

What year did you buy it? Brocks is asking $800 - $900 for guns like this, without extra mag and holster. I think that is too high, but I guess they sold plenty at asking price.

FWIW, I love the color of those grips. Way cool. If I had to have an East German, yours would be the one I'd want. Neat gun.

Hello Rick,

If you decide to get rid of those VOPO grips, send me a Private Message and I will make you an offer.

I have started somewhat of a VOPO grips collection. Trying to find all colors used and I sure like your reddish ones...

Regards,

Pete... <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

Anyone know what the S.P.M. means? I have a 1920/1917 marked S.P.L. the same way and the same place. It is not a VOPO, bought it from a vet. It has S.L.Pol. 1868. crossed out on the front grip strap.

Continue with Carls question. I'd like to say I savor this one. It has a history.

Rick, Since the markings on your front grip strap are from the Weimar period, it's a safe bet that your frame predates the G date top. The off center pinning of your Schmeisser type mags, indicate E.Ger rework and most likely renumbering. The holster shown is a West German issue P38 holster. Tom H.
