I saw the same holster on eBay, and it looks absolutely gorgeous. I cannot believe the current price of $500 and I wonder if it will fetch a higher price? I also wonder what makes it a Luffewaffe holster and I guess it goes with a Krieghoff Luger.

As you know, the seller started it @ $1, with no reserve. It still has 4 days to go. We will just have to wait and see what it fetches! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Why would the bidding be so heavy with so much time to go on the item? That just doesn't make sense to me. If I really wanted an item, there is no way that I would bid 1 cent on it before the last ten minutes.

Wes, There is nothing that indicates this is a genuine Luftwaffe issue holster. Some people are under the misconception that any holster that is brown in color is a Luftwaffe issue. There are genuine Luftwaffe holsters and these are stamped with the appropriate eagle , generally inside the back between the belt loop slits. Sort of center inside. Since the story on this one is it was picked up at a storage facility or some such, I would suspect it had never been issued to any branch of the German services.

I was hoping that you would reply on this holster. Sometimes I think that I know what I am looking at in a holster and then there are times like this when the description befuddles me. Especially whenever so many are bidding high on the item at the onset and so much time left.

John D posted a shoulder holster with the acceptance stamp in another thread, which helped me quite a bit.

WES, I think the appeal to this piece is the condition. Regardless of it's provenance and claim of Luftwaffe issue it is in as good a condition as one is likely to see. I do not think any high end collector is buying it because of the Luftwaffe claim. Jerry Burney

The seller could be assuming that the eagle over the WaA could indicate Luftwaffe, or he may just be a good salesman. Either way it is a killer holster. Just goes to show that buying nice condition pays off when you get ready to sell. The highest price finish on a firearm is the last 1% that makes it 100%. It can very well double the price over a 98/99% piece.

Holsters that went with Kriegs were typically BLACK - and were LWaA2 proofed in the inside top-flap. I think Johnny is right - that the seller thinks that the Eagle over the WaA is, incorrectly - a "Luftwaffe" stamp. It is a fine looking holster, though...

Whatever the final bidder pays for the unused holster is way too much..but he will be able to sell it for more than it is worth when he decides to (if he doesn't go sticking some stupid gun inside of it).

Who is to say with any authority what the holster is actually worth. This holster does not need a pistol as it is highly collectible just as it is. I would hazard a guess that if a holster of this quality showed up on one of the larger Luger dealers lists that it would be priced in the $750/800 range. It is not uncommon to see magazines selling in the $150/250 range and loading tools in the $100/200 range; so when you take everything into perspective and consider the rarity of the condition of the holster, it is definitely not out of line at it's current price.

From your examination of the excellent photos, what is your opinion on the authenticity of the item? could it be a really good repro? It appears to me that there aren't even any dry cracks in the top of the belt loops... and the condition is almost too good to be true!

If it is genuine, I agree that $500 is not too far out of line... I have seen lesser holsters go for more on eBay.

It is my opinion that the holster is genuine, but it is outside my expertise to determine if it is a Luftwaffe holster because I am not a Krieghoff expert like you. However, I do lean with your opinion that Luftwaffe holsters were black and stamped insider the lid. Assuming that this holster is a Luftwaffe holster, which Krieghoff Luger would match it and, if the subject holster is not Luftwaffe issued, what type is the holster?

I do feel that the holster has been treated occasionally with Pecard or a leather care product which gives it the nice shiny appearance, however, this should not affect the value of the holster. No holster will look this fine condition if never treated properly for 60+ years. Whoever owned it over the many years cared for the holster very well.

I can safely make an opinion regarding 'care' of the subject holster because I own a mint 1906/10 Portuguese Royal Navy Luger with all its accessories including holster/strap which Ron Wood has personally examined and the holster of my Luger does not match the same condition as the subject holster although the 'Crown Anchor' Luger and holster were in a woman's closet for over 90 years until I bought it last March. I shall post this Luger with all relevant details on the Forum in the near future after I take nice photos.

It will be interesting to see what this holster actually brings the seller. I agree that it is an unusual collector item unto itself. My reference to 'worth' was in relation to all things being worth what someone is willing to pay for them. It would be nice to have, that is for sure.
