I have tryed to explain it on an earlyer post, here it goes;

The word "HÃ?Â¥vamÃ?Â¥l" means "The speek of the tall" and contains old norwegian "liferules" or "words of wisdom" written around 10 up to 13 century (wiking erea). Direct translation from v. 38 is:

"Weapons to menn on hill not to walk a step from, unknown when on road outside it can be question aboud spear."

So.. if your out in the world, always keep your weapon close to you. I guess the world has not changed that mutch I'm afraid..

Pete, I bet that is a tack driver. I've owned three .30s over the years. All shot extremely well. I used to bet friends that I could take the cap off of a soda bottle at 30 paces with one shot,with the last one. I won nearly every time.

Is that the standard Mauser rear main toggle pin?? The flange on it seems pretty large...also it seems as if the receiver is quite a'ways back?? perhaps some geometry changes to accomadate the rear sight /toggle ass'y??? Pretty neat, I've always had a hanker'n for one, or both of these... best to all, til...lat'r.....GT <img border="0" alt="[jumper]" title="" src="graemlins/jumper.gif" />

I agree Morgan... the recoil spring would have to be lightened in force, or the loads would have to be much heavier than normal in my opinion for this Luger to work reliably...

You would need a full strength or better recoil spring to return to battery with the heavy barrel. On the other hand it would not be too much of a problem to run heavy loads with the bull barrel. This is the same action design as used in the carbine. the design strength is there, the only question is proofing for heavy loads. (A question that does not carry much weight with 44 Special shooters.)

Hugh, are you keeping the Texas roads safe for tie rods with that piece you have?

Pete, I would'nt mind having that one. If I knew it would function properly. I do a lot of long range shooting with handguns. We fill milk jugs with water. I can hit them pretty consistantly out to about 300yds with my .41 S&W.
I love this pistol. Anything I want to hit within 200 yds with it is pretty much toast.And about 75% at 300 yds. Getting a little more difficult. Now that my eyesight is getting fuzzy, but still do pretty good.

I've also got a Shilo Sharps #1 sporter, that I do 500 yd shooting with. It's really a kick to shoot off of cross sticks.
