Gentlemen,
I just acquired a 1912 holster from a fellow collector with the unit marking: Gr.R.3. It also has the following embossed below the maker marking of Loh Sohne, Berlin: BA XV11. From what I have been able to find, this is Grenadier Regiment 3 or Guards Grenadier Regiment 3. Are they one and the same? From what I understand, the "Guards" name was bestowed upon units which had distinguished themselves in battle and that the "Grenadier" name indicated troops specializing in the use of grenades but as time went on it became more of an honorific name for some infantry units-is that correct. Does anyone have any information about the quality of this unit which they could share and their service during the Great War. Thank you, Ricardo |
