1916 DWM Stuhl

I recently aquired this Luger with all matching serial numbers and was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this pistol. I know it was reworked in 1945 in Stuhl Germany and manufactured in 1916 by DWM. Any imput on its value?

Suhl germany was a big gun manufacturing hub, and some GI most likly had it personalized in 1945.

Not a rework by anyone offiical (factory) as they were all closed.

Neil, Welcome to the Forum. Your pistol has been cast into a shooter catagory. Even though it is all matching it has replacement reproduction grips, has been reblued, reproduction magazine and engraved..it has lost it's pure collectability.
From what I see, I would value it at around $450-600 tops. Thats if the bore is good and it actually shoots. If it walked into a gunshow I wouldn't pay more than $350-400.
Original mag and grips being gone hurt it IMO.

A real novice here, but the front sight looks to me to be a Patridge type and not original. Best to all,

Vince..Right you are...I had noticed it and forgot to include it in my list of modifications. Good eye.
It appears the remnant pf the original might be there and a brass bead was soldered on? All of these add up to what is known as more is less...

There's a seat for every saddle and if the bore is good and it functions correctly I'd try to get $750 as a nice shooter.
It looks nice but not to the real collectors.

Suhl was in the Russian zone, later it was in the DDR. This is quite an odd ball pistol to find, as it is clearly marked Suhl, Germany.

It may have some real collectors value!

So im very confused as to the Suhl Markings. This is my first luger and im learning as much as i can but cannot find out anything on the Suhl markings. anyone know of anywhere i can find some more information?

Let's be clear....It is ENGRAVED Suhl, Germany, not stamped or roll marked. It is also in English. This is not a factory marking in any way.

I agree with Ed. This was most likely a GI's souvenir, (GI's had access to the Soviet zone well through '45 and possibly '46 before the Soviets clamped down). He had the place and time he acquired the pistol engraved upon it. Possibly well after his return to the US.

It was probably reblued at the time of engraving as well.

that makes complete sense to me. I gathered as much technical data as I could but its the history and the timeline that I couldnt figure out. Either way I am stoked to finally own a Luger and have somewhat of an idea as to its history. I appreciate all the imput i have gotten here on the forum.

The front sight was made by Marbles. I've seen these sights on several Alphabet Commercials over the years. Most likely a replacement after it came to the U.S.

I agree with David on the value, $700-$750 as a nice unique shooter.
