Default Question about format of commercial Luger serial numbers

I recently purchased a commercial luger in 30 caliber. It has a four digit serial number 6958 on the front of the frame but without a suffix directly after it. Below it there is what appears to be a lower case "L" stamped in script or cursive which is arranged this way:

6958

L(lower case)

Is that the suffix referred to in the serial number tables? Or should it read "6958L" if the suffix is truly part of the serial number? Thanks.

That is the letter suffix as referred to. And the complete serial number is 6958l, as you suggest.
