Beretta 22

A neighbor came by today looking to trade this neat little Beretta to me. Said he knew I liked older guns and he was looking for a 25 which I just happened to have.. Now I have to learn a little about it.

If it's a .22, it's a model 948.

My Dad bought one in the early 1950s that I still have.

These are neet little pistols, with an aluminum frame, and can be quite accurate to boot.

They are a slightly down sized Model 34, the .380acp Italian Army pistol of WWII.

And that frame is NOT aluminum, but polished steel.

A very nice example whatever it actually is...

"Made In Italy" seems to indicate a commercial export model; no military designation (RE/RA/RM) or police marking (PS). POTW says "The Model 1934 was also sold commercially but only in relatively small numbers, since most of the production was taken by the Italian forces"...

There was also a model 1935, in 7.65mm (32 ACP)...Identical to the 1934 but for the chambering...[POTW]...

Yes it is .380 not sure what I had on my mind at the time. Wish it had been a military marled gun but happy to have it either way. I read a post that said: The P.S.F. XXII indicates a smokeless powder proof mark of 1966. The P.S.F. is Italian proof mark which refers to Polvere senza fumo or smokeless powder. The XXII is the proof date code.
