Unit Markings
I recently picked up a nice barrel receiver for a shooter project. The chamber is code 41. The right side has the following inscription:
E.C.C.S.A. and on the left side the letter X has been stamped after the four digit serial number. The usual eagle over numbers on the right side have been ground off. I have never seen this before and thought it might be an East German rework. Any info would be appreciated. Aldo35 |

Yup. As stated several times here, ECCSA was the Cross Roads Gun Shop in Pennsauken, New Jersey. They went out of business, some mystery/legal issues attached to their demise. (I have one of their imports).
X'ing out the old serial or part number is a Russian capture feature; just adding an X is new to me. Grinding off numbers is not generally attributed to Russian/VoPo Lugers as far as I've read. But I'm certainly no authority, maybe Ron or Ed (or anyone) can chime in here...

I also recently acquired one of the Lugers and P.38 pistols that that company brought in back before they went out of business... He got some nice reworks. My 1921 has the "X" on the rear toggle pin (not the frame or receiver); shows a couple of East German acceptance marks and was essentially unissued after rework...

It was de- Nazified by grinding off the offensive symbols, and the crude X is Ruski applied.
