This is shaping up to be the best show on the East Coast; were I not able to predict my schedule, I would have a table again. Lots of good stuff and some great walk-in stuff...maybe I should consider putting up a free metamucil stand in the parking lot and see if any geezers with Lugers show up..

As the show disappeared for about twenty years. The August 1 show was the debut. Knowing the promoters, I imagine it will be three times a year. |

Just got back from Lunch with George Anderson at the Dulles Expo Center... for those on the way, there is a great BBQ place to the right of the Expo hall as you face the front door.
I stopped in to the expo hall with George as he checked in... and he took me on a short tour of the facility and introduced me to all the dealers/collectors that were in the midst of setting up for the weekend. This should be a GREAT show. Finally got to meet Ralph and Nancy Shattuck, and got an invite to visit them next time I am in Phoenix. If you are at the show tomorrow, look for me. I will be wearing the DWM hat I won from George... but I won't be sporting my beard I shaved it off a couple of weeks ago...only the mustache is left... C U all tomorrow!

Thanks Thor! (Secret Message Received and De-Coded )
I spent several hours at the Chantilly show, courtesy of George Anderson who was kind enough to leave me a free pass at the door. Met a bunch of Luger enthusiasts, and encouraged those who didn't know about our forum to stop by and visit. One gentleman had about 25 Lugers on his table (his personal accumulation of many years...) and he told me that visits the Internet about once a week at the senior center... but it never occured to him to look for fellow Luger enthusiasts or a forum... I told him to stop by and use our classified ads to sell off his Lugers... A lot of shooters, but certainly a few nice specimens. He also had a BRAND NEW Erma post-war .22 caliber Luger conversion unit in the wooden box, with all the factory cards and things all still in the original plastic wrappers... This is the comversion type that has the simulated Luger toggle knobs and not just the small cylindrical protrusions... it was REALLY nice... Hopefully he will offer that too when he drops by... Alas, the only checks I had with me were made of rubber so it couldn't go home with me. I also met Doug Smith of FGS, Sam Buscemi, and Jim Kemp... If the Simpsons were there, then I must have missed their display... I am even sorrier that I missed the August show now... That was the first show decades here... this one was great as far as I was concerned... There were easily between 150 and 200 Lugers to be seen....

Let me add here in the show forum that many folks I spoke to thought this show was better than August. Not to demean August (which I missed), but that was the first at the Expo Center, and it was in the summer. This venue has changed hands. From what I have heard, the previous owner was anti-gunshow, plus Fairfax County had the waiting period for handguns even if you went through the instacheck. As a result, many did not want the hassle if you could not take it with you, so no shows in Northern VA.
For those not familiar, this is a joint show with C&E and Showmasters. I hope it continues to get better. We needed a large NoVA show with real collectibles and nationally known, established, reputable dealers in collectibles to make up for the small shows with jewelry and jerky and a few good local dealers. I am a Swiss and US military collector. This show had Peabodys, Swiss Martinis, G1911, K1911, the ubiquitious K31s, and a Zfk.31/55 sniper as well as Lugers and Swiss revolvers. My colleague who is a antique US collector has scored well at the 2 shows, an 1886 Springfield experimental 24" trapdoor carbine in August, and a Winchester Lee Navy this show. We had a good time spending like drunken sailors. With this Swiss Luger I bought, and other Swiss rifles, the wife said the guns in my collection are looking more like museum pieces... not a bad compliment. Fortunately, she also enjoys a good show.
