Tomathyl,
the price is within the going range for a type 2 Trommel at American gun shows. This one seems to be a bit pitted. The British have some tough gun laws and there is no recourse if the magazine isn't as advertized. Don't be afraid to ask questions like 'has the magazine been plugged to hold fewer rounds?'. The guy has a pretty good track record. I only have a type 1 Trommel to compare. So I see that the side of the drum that has the screw has concentric circles in the one for sale. My type 1 is flat. That may not mean anything since there were several models of this magazine and three manufactures.

My advice if anyone is interested in this snail drum is to communicate with the seller immediately (by ask the seller a question) because as soon as the ebay police find a high capacity magazine for sale they will pull all references to the auction and you won't be able to find out who the seller was...

I am also not sure if this magazine can be imported without red tape by the ATF... does anyone have experience in importing hi cpapcity C&R magazines?

It seems to me to be a bit overpriced. For the condtion. I have had one pulled off Ebay last year. Did not take them but a few hours before it was removed. sold it on gunbroker. Was missing parts bad shape.

John, On Sept 23 it should become a moot point? Put it in a box and call it a carburetor for an MG. Sort of is isn't it? Jerry Burney

As far as importation goes, that may be correct Jerry... although the ATF may not lift their regulatory ban on importation... just because the LAW sunsets...

Unfortunately, as far as eBay is concerned... it still falls outside their parameters for material that not prohibited for auction...

I am sorry Patrice, but I am not aware of the separate value of the dust cover... just that $1000 seems to be common for the snail drum in working condition...

I gotta find out where you guys buy your authentic snail drums from. At gun shows that I attend, the prices range from $1200 to $1400 with the typical price being about $1250. I don't even live in California where everything is expensive.

Of course, the particular snail drum in question on this thread not only looks a bit pitted, but a person has to also take in the cost of shipping. All this makes this one a bit pricey.

Big Norm, I don't even own a snail drum! But I watch all the auctions and try to keep a running tally in my head of what some things cost... My figure is just ballpark... and my comment was intended to inform Tomathvl that less than $1000 is not something that I think will happen unless an angry wife or girlfriend is selling stuff

At these prices, it seems I will never own a snail drum unless some enterprising entrepreneur decides he can manufacture them for $100 after the sunset on the Hi-capacity mag and AW ban take effect next month...

Big Norm,

I buy my $1000 authentic snail drums the same place I buy my $350 Lugers.

Well, I know Dwight enough, that if he has "several" snail drums, gosh, I hope he shares

I just hope that when Dwight decides to unload one of his original Type 2's with a dust cover that he remembers me. I have a beautiful 1916 (serial #2989a) that needs something to fill that hole that the original mag normally goes into. All the type 2's that I have seen go for more than $1000 and aren't in that good a shape.

I've been thinking about the pricing of Lugers and their accessories since I started posting to this thread. I have come to the conclusion that there is a degree of regionality in the pricing. I cannot disagree with John Sabato and his prices because I know that he is an honest man. I also know what I have seen at the shows that I attend. I have a brother in California who, at times, tells me about prices there. I have come to the conclusion that the prices in California are pretty high.

Here in Michigan, people don't go crazy over Lugers at gun shows like they do in Ohio. I have seen good Lugers just sit on the tables here. I picked up a nice 1916 navy at a show in Michigan at a reasonable price that would have quickly vanished in Ohio. I made an offer and the seller accepted it at the last minute of the last day.Few people even looked at the gun. I showed it to one Luger collector after I bought it and he didn't even know it was there. The gun isn't mint, but not chopped liver either. Its an honest gun.

Big Norm,

I hope you guys realize that my previous comment was a joke...but as far as the regionality of prices is concerned, this is exactly the reason I post my detailed gun show listing, and urge others to do the same. Although now that I think of of it, I'm not sure that sell prices (which I may not be privy to) aren't more pertinent than ask prices, and it should probably include gun dealer (non-show) prices when they crop up, as well.
