Impluse buy. Worth it? (1938 S/42)
New member here. Normally, I do lots and lots of research on the guns I come across and end up getting most at great deals. Sometimes, I've missed good deals by not moving fast enough however. In this case however I did not do any of that. I've always wanted a Luger and on the way home I came across this one and just had to have it. I knew enough that all matching numbers was a good thing and 1938 puts it at the beginning of WWII, but still, my emotions got the best of me. Gun appears very clean for what it is.
After doing some research, I think I really overpaid on this one. Is this gun worth the $1500 I paid? (BTW, the pics are not the best. Took them with my iPhone. Gun looks better in the flesh. ) |

Brian,
Welcome to Luger collecting! The gun looks in good condition and if it all matching then you didn't do too bad. It might cost you a little more for a good magazine as none of those you have are from the correct time period for your gun. Tom |

I think you did fine. You may have gotten it for $1300 if you waited long enough, but probably long distance & without the benefit of hands-on. The top and 3rd mag is worth something, and funny thing is that I'm looking for one like the top one. Let me know if it is available.
And welcome aboard. dju |

Thanks for the replys guys. I did sort of just jump into this without my customary research galore. I'm not too worried about paying $1500 for a $1300 gun. I was just hoping I didn't buy a $700 gun.
dju, will keep you in mind regarding the mag. Still too new at this to know what would be correct for this gun, but since it isn't original the gun I may be willing to part with it. For now, I'm learning all I can. I sure have a lot of catching up to do. Glad I found this the LugerForum! |

Well, she's a shooter. Put 30 rounds of Winchester White Box through her and she shot fine. Very accurate I might add. Had one fail to feed and it was the second round. I ran at least 7 rounds through all the mags and they all seemed to work fine. Very pleased with this purchase.
