I'd do a whole bunch of research before jumping into that auction.

Geo,

I think that the seller is living a fantasy. Or is attempting to pump sunshine up an orifice. I don't know what the list is, or how it relates to the Hindenburg.

Looks like a police marking to me, but what do I know.

Ron

Apart from that, the Hindenburg was not a military vessel, but a commercial one, so no need for military markings of any kind (which would have been obsolete after 1934 anyway). Also, it had the registration-ID LZ129.

So I agree Ron. An elaborate fantasy story, as far as the Hindenburg connection goes.

Exactly right; a commercially owned and operated airship.

This is another of the L.A. unit marks that often get misinterpreted as Landj¤gerei. It is definitely not. There have been other threads on one or both of the forums identifying it as a Luft-something military marking.

L.A.1.23.
If the serial number of the Ortiges is (as indicated on the mag and holster)176681 it was manufactured after the end of World War I. It is doubtful if post World War I pistols would bear Imperial unit stamps as many parts of the Imperial Army were dismantled at the Wars end.

I suspect that the Imperial Luftschiffer units were all dissolved at the end of World War I and there is not a listing for post World War I Luftschiffer units in the 1923 Reichswehr unit markings instructions. Also, the markings are not according to orders with the numbers being larger than the unit designator.

This is an interesting mystery marking, not Imperial and most likely not Weimar military or police. Possible it is a private or company marking.
