You could measure the length, and number of coils of your old mainspring; and the wire diameter.
And report here.

If your ejector was a "crappy" aftermarket part; its breaking is just bad luck.

Haha, I appreciate the insight! I had not connected the not returning to battery issue to the ejector but I suppose it's possible.

And I said that because Lugers go on battery more based on momentum than on spring action. If you retract the breechblock a quarter of an inch, it won't (it shouldn't) close on it's own.

I contacted GT and he is sending me some original ejectors to try out so hopefully I'll have more success with one of them. He's throwing in some extractor springs too so now I have a couple of different things I can try.

As mentioned above, I do have both original and new repro PO8 ejectors in stock. Either type may require some fitting, depending on your luger. TH
